Trying to change my preferences by going to their website. I put in my holders number and it says I am already registered but can't remember ever doing that. SO, I go to logon andit tells me the holders number is of the wrong form (mine has an alpha character on the end (nnnnnnnX). So totally stuck. Any ideas what I do apart from the pain of phoning them? Thanks.

The number with a character on the end is probably your premium bond holders number.You should have a separate NS&I number to login to the site - or will need to register if you haven't done so.Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?0

Your NS&I number is 11 digits long and starts with an 11, 21, 31 or 41. If you can't find your NS&I number, you can get a reminder online0 -
you must register for ns&i logon using your premium bond number. go to the site and click the 'i have premium.bonds' link. once registered you will get an 11 digit number you can use this to log on, see your holdings, chamge preferences etc0
