UC carers element backdated...

Hey guys, 
So my husbands PIP award came through the other day, higher rate care, lower rate mobility. I updated the UC journal and asked if it can be backdated to the beginning of the PIP award. They said it would go to a decision maker who will decide.

Has anyone had any success with this before? In 2019 I updated our situation on there to include my husbands disabilities and one of the questions on there is does someone provide more than 35 hours care for you and I put yes so they have known for ages that I do care for him we just didn't have the courage to apply for pip until september.

Sorry thought I should add, I am only trying to get it backdated to when we applied for PIP in September, I dont see why other benefits would get back dated as standard but someone has to decide whether this does? Isnt it just clear cut that it is/isn't.

Yes it's possible for it to be backdated to the start of the PIP award and it's standard procedure for it to be sent to a decision maker to make the decision.

Thank you Poppy. We heard today from UC and they sent a letter to my journal saying that I notified them late but special circumstances apply and that my UC will be adjusted from 6/9/20.  Changes to my UC entitlement will be shown in my monthly statement. 

So does this mean they will backdate it from september month? If so how do they send the money? Does it get added to my march statement?

Sounds like they have agreed to backdate it. How it's paid i have no idea but likely to be a separate payment to your usual monthly payment. You will have a message on your journal at some point telling you how much the backdated money is and when to expect payment.

Can I ask you how long it took to receive the backdated money for carers element.  Just im going through the same thing now . Decision maker has agreed special circumstances back to Nov 2019 . Waiting for payment

Sorry I have only just seen this comment it was a few weeks. I think theh confirmed the amount and then it took 5 days to reach my account. I am quite persistent with chasing these things as I  have experienced so many failings with the DWP.
