This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Ruby - hope everything went as well as these things can, thinking of you all x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, wet underfoot with laying water after heavy rainfall last night.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast beef with all the trimmings - very nice it was too. Tonight will be either LO's or spanish chicken, whichever one we don't have tonight will become tomorrow nights' dinner.
Back to work this morning, wish this awful situation was over to be honest, the not knowing is worse than definitely knowing what's going on. Everyone you speak to is feeling the same. Not helped by the fact that they moved the goalposts yet again last week again by delaying things by another week.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's getting ridiculous the way they are keeping you all in suspense workwise. Let's hope this week you hear something and it's not as bad as you are all thinking. As promised, it's already milder this morning and set to reach double figures by lunchtime. Sadly not much in the way of sun is forecast.
I've just read back on what I missed on here yesterday to find we have a wounded soldier in AOD and DUMPLING in hospital yet again with sepsis. I hope you both make a speedy recovery and are back with us in fine fettle before long. At least the poorly boilers have responded to treatment which must be a relief. I am dreading mine packing in as is it is another one living on borrowed time with many spare parts now not available for it.
I need to ring the vets this morning as the Sparkly Cat is in need of another steroid injection with the usual allergy flare up. Other than that it will be another day of same old same old. Now the weather is on the up I might feel more inclined to start a spring clean - or maybe I won't!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our invalids and poorlies or just p****d off. Thinking of AOD, DUMPLING, RUBY and MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC. Sorry to hear you're still in limbo at work, even if you got bad news at least you could start to process it, and make plans. It's all this hanging about that's the worst, and the rumour mill is probably working overtime. Hope you hear something soon.AOD, hope you've got some good pain relief, it shakes you up as well, a fall like that. There was no frost overnight, and everything seems to be thawing out, thank goodness. We didn't go out yesterday, driving rain started and we thought that water on top of the hard packed snow and ice was a dangerous combination. Just stayed in and pottered.Today we'll do the same I should think, well DH has an appointment for a hearing test, but it's only a short journey to the hearing clinic at a local doctors. That's it for today, hope everyone has a reasonable day. Thinking of Ruby and her family, and all others with health or life problems13

Morning All
Quite mild this morning, all the snow seems to have gone. There wasn't as much rain as was forecast yesterday thankfully.
Sounds painful AOD, hope you make a swift recovery.
Get well soon dumpling.
So pleased Nelski and Gers have heating again, it certainly hasn't been the weather to be without.
I had a very lazy day yesterday, read a book that I quite enjoyed and generally slobbed around. Had a good video chat with DS1 and the DGC although news on both sides was a bit sparse.
Washing has just finished, I'll hang it on the pulley before I go to work, will hoover round when I get home.
Thinking of you Ruby and Marie, take care. XX11 -
Morning all up early as fingers crossed the gardners are coming to make a start I feel a bit sad that what we planned we won't be here to enjoy but this was all part of the bigger picture when we booked him last June . I did a few bits over the weekend i sorted my bedside drawers to take over to the other house and the drinks cupboard as we seem to have accumulated quite a bit of wine and spirits . The conservatory has also had a declutter and all ornaments have been packaged up to be taken over this week so we are getting there , my rationale is that we will only have viewings on a Friday to Sunday so DH and I can go to the other house with the dog and let the estate agent do their thing , I also don't want to leave anything that's easy to pick up and take I know i shouldn't be so suspicious but you do hear of things going missing during showings .
Nmic I hope you hear something this week and decisions are not put back again
Ruby Thinking of you and your family x
Dumpling Hope your starting to feel a bit better today x
AOD I hope you are still resting up and feeling a bit more comfortable
Marie you are in my thoughts
Right enough of my ramblings have a good day fingers crossed we may be seeing light at the end of the tunnel for Easter . Stay safe warm and dry xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Morning folks. All the snow has melted away and we have 5 degrees already. The relatively milder weather yesterday helped during the boiler crisis. TA - the boiler is only six months old, I gather that pressure can drop anytime. I fear that my fiddling around when trying to find out how to add more water my well have caused the problem with the remote controller so full marks and a gold star to the lovely engineer who came out to fix it. 🎉
My first loaf in the machine was fine, but I couldn't get it out. The bottom was almost burnt and stuck to the tin. Perhaps I need to grease the non-stick pan next time! This morning I'm taking my car for it's annual service so it'll be two hours sitting reading. I've dug out a book to take. After that I have no plans. The news that it's been 50 years since decimalisation has shocked me, I remember it well and would swear it wasn't so long ago. 😱 There are times I still convert new money into old and haven't yet mastered metric weights.AOD - take things easy for a while. Let others look after you.Dumpling - I hope you're soon home again.Ruby - no doubt you're catching up with your strength and energy. Please be kind to yourself.Time to move. I hope that everyone is safe and warm. Happy Monday to all.11 -
Morning everyone
NMLC - thank you for starting us off. I hope your work situation is soon resolved, as you say it's the not knowing that's the hard bit!
Dumpling - I hope you are feeling brighter this morning.
Not much to report from here - it's pouring down but mild which is very welcome! I am back at work today (from home) so have had a quick clean round and am just having a coffee and a catch up on here before my porridge then will start work.
I have some turkey escalopes for lunch with some rice and veg - not sure about this evening but I have some hot cross buns so perhaps one of those. I have made the usual jelly with fruit in and have plenty of yoghurts.
Work should be quiet today but I have a lot of meetings tomorrow which I need to prep for so need to get on with that.
I just have one small load of towels to wash today.
It's pay day for me so the obligatory look at my finances for the month ahead will be done - no council tax to pay this month which is lovely!
This evening I can hopefully continue reading my book club read - I am around half way through and the meeting is in about a month. I am a slow reader though so I like to read a few pages whenever I can. I also read slightly differently when it's for a book club as I like to remember things I want to discuss at the meeting!
Anyway, I had best get on with things so I can start work!

Morning everyone
We've thawed overnight - the grass is green again! I have some ironing to do then plan to walk along to supermarket. Little one has been unable to drink liquids for a couple of months, but now is not allowed either jelly or yogurt so I need to experiment with gelatine. Apparently if I put extra gelatine into jelly it will make the jelly into little sweets which won't dissolve in her mouth. The doctors think that liquid goes the 'wrong way' and ends up on at her lungs rather than in her stomach and then causes a cough which can lead to a chest infection, and then could lead to pneumonia. It may right itself or require an operation. She's a complicated little girl!
We try not to drink in front of her, as she'll cry for 'just a tiny bit.'
So first I need to find some gelatine....If anyone has any ideas of anything else sweet I can add it to I'd be grateful.
Then I'll call at mam and dads as it was too icy to get down the hill yesterday.
Not sure if I have little one later but have plenty to do if not.
Watched the last episode of The Drowning last night - was not impressed by the ending at all
Hope everyone has a good day and some milder weather.13 -
Morning, hugs to the poorly ones, hope you feel better soon.
Bed stripped and in the washer, will send a message to my ironing lady two loads will be ready by tonight. I can no longer stand to iron, tried sitting down.....could not get enough pressure. Cleaner is due this morning, so a quick tidy up before she gets here.
DB is threatening to go out to the garden. He bought a mushroom kit a while ago, its been in various places in the house, at the moment its on the window cill in my sewing room and there is one solitary mushroom showing itself. No sign of any more. I think he is most likely to mess about in the shed. M rang on Saturday and said he will do the shed roof at the weekend if its fine.
Once we have made the bed and W has finished in the bedroom I will be laying out the quilt blocks so I can see how many more I need. I am doing the yellow ones, think I have done all the blue ones. New regime in the sewing room, put everything away tidily when you pack in sewing each evening. How long it will last is something else. I may look out the fabric to do a set of place mats using the tree design I have used on table runners........that will be one gift off my 2021 Christmas present list. I have a couple of note books I want to cover as well, need to see if I can do them on my embroidery machine, in the hoop.
Supper tonight is egg, chips and beans, May be just a scoop of ice cream for dessert.
Sorry about the large print, do not seem to be able to make it any smaller.

Morning all, just a quick post, Dumpling hope you feel better soonI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12

Morning all.
Csarina, I love the large print, it saves me squinting.
So sorry for our 2 casualties. AOD and dumpling, I hope you both feel a lot better soon.
nmlc I did wonder why you'd not mentioned the changes at work last week. Not much organisation is there? Fingers crossed that you get some news soon
Was it really 50 years ago that we changed to decimal coinage? I still frighten myself sometimes, by changing things back to old money. "15/- to send a letter? Really?" I still remember the National Outrage when they put the price of a stamp up from 2x1/2d to 3d. (That's 1p to 1x1/2p for the youngsters among us.) There was nearly a riot.
Of course, we then had 2 posts a day, one before 9am and another later in the morning. That was in the days before things were 'improved' and made more efficient. Oh, don't get me started.
gers I still can't get my head around grams and litres. I have to convert everything back.
Let's face it. I'm a dinosaur.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13
