Can't download app as need to visit Barclays in person to determine my identity, ie, two forms of identification. This after I took photo of my passport and my picture, also saying some numbers on their app too. I'm was able to activate in online and can use card in shops etc but can't set up the app on my mobile phone. I also wanted to purchase a MacBook on PC world, wouldn't let me progress, wouldn't send code to my phone. I had to use my debit card to make purchase. It just seems loads of hassle. Capital One and Vanquis are much easier to set up and make purchases on without all this hassle.

Any body else experience this?

  • Almost certainly. Not everyone gets through automated ID checks and as a result have to go on to provide additional evidence.

I also imagine that if it's a new card - and you've not yet completed your ID verification for the app - that there might likely be a flag on the account that would prevent large purchases, so if you  were trying to spend a grand at PC world within days of getting your card, before completing your verification, I would imagine they (rightly) would be not letting such a large purchase through until they knew for sure that you were you.

I’ve never downloaded the app, as I believe it interferes with google pay.

However their website is very easy to log in to, they keep giving me offers, they are generous with their credit limits, so you need to weigh up how important the app is to you.

My experience with Barclaycard is different. If the card and/or the services provided by Barclaycard to not meet your expectations then you can always cancel it.

The app does not interfere with goggle or samsung pay. If you want to use the barclaycard app for nfc payments then you need first to turn that slide switch on in the app. If you don't, then it doesn't access the nfc chip.
