Cheap but good cat food

My cat is 12+ years old and has no teeth
I've been recommended buying wet food
I'm on a very low budget and being a vulnerable adult with health issues so I'm limited to buying online so I'm getting Sainsburys home deliveries
Until now I've been buying Sainsburys own brand 12 tins for what works out at around 10p for 100g which suits my budget only its meat cubes in jelly or gravy
I treat her to Whiskers sometimes but thats also about as chunky as the tinned food
Trouble is she cant chew it properly and eats it whole. It's obvious when she vomits sometimes that it hasn't been chewed properly
could someone recommend a similar priced cat food without chunks?

Kitten food usually has smaller chunks and be a similar price, but I'm not aware of any complete food that's a paste. Second vote for mashing it up! (or even sticking it in a food processor or blender if you have one)

Edit: I just remembered 'pate' style food - my cats won't touch it, but I'm pretty sure it is more finely diced. I'm not sure what sainsbury's has, but some supermarkets definitely do an own brand pate.
  • There is the pate food, but it's not as cheap. It's sold as single tubs and is about 50p for the cheapest one.

    Kitten food is tiny.

Slice and dice the food you're giving her. You can also soak kibble in water and that turns to mush.

The only other thing is to start feeding her a raw diet, assuming you are not a veggie or vegan, bits of your can be sliced off along with other things. Plenty of info online about raw feeding.

Cats don't really chew, mine licks the food up and swallows it, occasionally she bites it once then swallows. As treats mine gets slices of whatever meat is being cooked that day, only before it's cooked.

Sainsburys do their own brand box of sachets - 48 to a box - for £8.00.   I find that it suits my 16 year old cat and her 10 year old son perfectly - they each get 3 sachets a day and both are doing well on this - its in  jelly and because its in sachets the chunks are a lot smaller.    I also put down a bowl of Iams senior kibble - which is quite small - along with water.
  • You could try Zooplus

They do a large amount of brands and have loads of tins of meat that are minced and not chunks (like pate but thicker).  We have one cat with very
few teeth and one who will suck all the gravy/ jelly off and leave the chunks 🙄 so the mashed meat is our best option.

They also do good quality meats that are grain and cereal free.  My girls only get Felix/Whiskers etc as a very occasional treat as the cat equivalent of a McDonald's!
