Ticking noise from radiators or pipes.

You are warm, 2'penny, and that's kinda the most important thing at the moment

Indeed. Warm and fed you can deal with most other things. He said he left the boiler turned up because of the cold snap coming. I'll see what happens if I turn it down a bit because I'm not a hot house bird. Now I know it's not something serious that's going to work itself into a disaster, I think perhaps the system has had a lot done to it and will settle down a bit once it's left to run and I work out the nuances new to me.Can't nip off to different places and ignore it these days either!
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I had this at the last place with the radiator brackets; it was metal on metal and caused plinks and tinks all the time. I packed the grooves with electrical tape and the problem went away. They can be a bit of a !!!!!! to locate.2

Make and model? What is the CH setting at currently - does it have a temp display? But, yes, turn it down generally as far as you can whilst still being able to warm your house up quickly enough.1

Grenage I can't get near the brackets. But I had that with my last place and it's not the same sound. But tonight, with the heating just kicking in the living room one is ticking away nicely. Different tick
That is the radiator.
Jeepers, I think he said setting was 4 and I could turn it down a bit if I needed. It's a Baxi Solo 3 PF (recently serviced and working fine and quiet), and I've found the instructions on how to open the door and the knob to look for. It's very mild here @ 11C, rads turned to 3.5 in kitchen, warm, bathrooms same and hot and 4.5 living room, cool. Bedroom off. They did come on to heat the rooms around 4.30pm.I didn't try getting the front down on the boiler today. I just wanted to be out walking and weeding in the sun and decompress.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I suppose if you isolate the radiator then you'll know if it's the radiator or the pipework.

If you push on the rad when it's ticking, then a noisy bracket should stop being noisy. When you run your ear along the rad when it's ticking, what can you detect apart for a hot ear? Can you pin-point the source at all?It could be a faulty TRV, one with a loose valve washer. To test for this, close the TRV off during a tick, and the noise should stop as soon as you feel resistance - at around '2' and lower.1

I'll try those things tonight when it comes on. Don't know why i didn't think of that. Probably because of a covid jab reaction and extreme weather and driven to my nether ends by constant knocking.
Great ideas.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

We both had the Pfizer Covid vaccines on Saturday and neither of us noticed any after effects, not even tiredness.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".1
