Vacuum Storage Bags

Anyone that has used them, would you give them a 👍 or a thumbs down 👎?
A friend recently bought some and is reasonably pleased with them, though they’ve only had them for a week. My linen cupboard has really got out of control and I have clothes that won’t be used to summertime and I’m wondering are they as good as claimed at saving space
My friend bought one with an electric pump but I’ve read that a domestic vacuum will do the same job (probably better?). Can I assume I don’t really need a pump. Amazon seem to do quite a range of them any recommendations will be welcome

Yup. Used them to store duvets and stuff in. A regular domestic vacuum cleaner is all that is needed to suck the air out.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
I've tried them but even the very expensive branded ones seem to give up the ghost after a little while. The only ones that seem to retain the vacuum over a decent period of time are the very small ones that you can store a few small items such as jumpers. The ones I've had have required a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.1 -
Heavy duty bin bags from Costco will do the job just as well.0

I find that the slightly more expensive options from places like John Lewis tend to work better /not break and leak less easily than the cheap poundland type versions...0

yeh they are good. we got ours on amazon. it reduces your quilt or your clothes to nearly nothing. I wouldn't use them long term. we used them for moving.that was yrs ago. still got the bags though.0

Gather the bag opening and hold it tightly with one hand sealing it around the end of a vacuum cleaner pipe. Leave the top few inches of bag opening above your hand. Turn the vacuum cleaner on until the bag stops shrinking and then slide your hand off the end while squeezing it tight to stop air escaping and use strong tape to seal those top few inches above your hand.kah22 said:
How would you seal and suck out the air?531063 said:Heavy duty bin bags from Costco will do the job just as well.
It might take a few goes to get that right but it should work.
If you have someone to help you by squeezing the bag contents or sitting on the bag to help compress it that might make it easier.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
I've had a couple of different packs from Amazon. They're brilliant. I have duvets, blankets, pillows, towels and coats all stored in them. They shink massively. The packs have come with a little hand pump to suck the air out but I use my vac as it is so quick. I have been using these for over a year and happy with them. Also great for camping trips as we take lots of bedding and it helps fit it in the car better. Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!
