Vanquis Default

Firstly, I am new to the forum, so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area.

I joined up to this forum as I am having an issue with my credit report. I have a default that is due to fall off my report next month which will hopefully mean I am eligible for credit again. However, on checking one of the other credit reference agencies, they have a default registered which is not showing on the credit reporting agency I use most.

On my Experian report there is evidence of a Vanquis account; however, it is not defaulted. Whereas, on Transunion, there is evidence of the same Vanquis account being defaulted.

I am reluctant to notify Experian of the possible default as it could have major impacts on my credit score that I have worked hard to better over the years.

is there a possibility that Transunion are reporting wrongly? Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

any help or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

First and most obvious question is, is it the same account, do the ref/account numbers match ?

  • If it’s due to fall off next month then it doesn’t matter who you notify as the default date would remain the same, Ignore the score, you will need to notify experian/Vanquis otherwise they may just keep recording late payment or overdue, better to get the default on there.

Both accounts are the same, same opening date etc. It’s showing as defaulted for £1 on Transunion but paid on Experian?

Sorry, I probably should have been clearer. It’s a three account default that is due to be removed next month as opposed to the vanquis.

So did you have a Vanquis account that you stopped paying?
  • Nope, looking back on my payment history on Experian, I had an account that had a balance which was then paid in full. However, Transunion differs to this.

So you need to raise a complaint with Vanquis then and Transunion to advise them that you paid and settled the account in full and it’s being reported wrong

Thank you - appreciate you taking the time to comment. I have raised the dispute with Transunion.

Raise a complaint with Vanquis now too as it’ll save you time if TransUnion come back and say the complaint was unsuccessful and u end up having to raise it later down the line. It means you can go straight to the ombudsman then if both complaints fail. Also get some evidence of clearing balance old bank statements etc.
