Universal Credit and National Insurance Credits

I have been on Universal Credit for nearly two years (incl. LCWRA) but yet to receive any National Insurance credits (the last two tax years "Year is not full"). On calling the DWP the comment was "You don't get NI credits when on UC". I drew their attention to the government directives which clearly states otherwise (see link below), to which they then claimed not to know about, but conceded that it seems to be correct. It states that the credits should be applied automatically, but so far this has not happened. Any ideas / anyone else on Universal Credit having problems getting National Insurance credits?

  •  That is for class 3 NI credits
  • My 19-20 tax year is full; those credits were a combination of sick pay and UC.  20-21 isn't available yet.  I imagine HMRC would be the best people to contact if DWP customer service people don't even know what should be happening!

@_shel class 3 count towards state pension so should be credited.
  • No joy with HMRC NI, they stated that I need to contact DWP UC. Given Spoonie_Turtle has been credited for 19/20 it looks like something may be a miss on my account :-(

Oh I see.  In that case, I guess your best bet might be trying to find out how to contact the relevant DWP department, with people who actually know (or should, at least!) what's supposed to happen.
  • Have raised a call with my case manager. Just was interested to hear from anyone else in a similar position. Cheers.
  • Fair enough.  I hope you get it sorted!
