Ryanair Flight Refund

Hi, hope I can get some help here. I had a holiday booked for Dec’20 with Sunshine Holidays. We had to cancel due to being put into tier 4 at the time.Sunshine refunded the cost of the Hotel and Trfs but unfortunately they said that they couldn't give us the money back for our flight as Ryanair would have to do this. When I spoke to Ryanair they weren't interested as the flight would still go ahead and refused to refund us. The cost was £840 which I have now lost as they have refused to refund me. Is there anything I can do to get my money back as its a lot to loose.

Your best bet will be to claim via your travel insurance, if it covers this scenario.0

Hi Christina,
I had a similar situation. Was due to fly 22/12/20, was put in Tier 4, Ryan Air still went ahead with the flight so they did not refund me. I have tried to claim through my bank insurance (Lloyds) and there answer was because i booked the flights on the 11th Aug 2020 my claim would be declined because on that date the FCDO had advice against all non essential travel to Spain and the Canary Islands, and any travel booked at that time was against government advice and therefore not covered under my policy term. I have also tried to claim through my credit card provider (Tesco Bank - master card) and they have said something similar. I am now checking with Citizens Advice Bureau. Have you had any luck in getting your flight money back ?
Can anyone help me with this, i was not going to travel in Aug, i was travelling in December !!

Unfortunately I don’t think you have any claim. If you booked against advice then that was the risk you took. As the flights went neither the credit card or Ryanair will have to refund as the service paid for was available. Sorry but this is one to chalk up to experience0

Had the Spanish holiday trip been cancelled by Sunshine Holidays due to say restrictions being put in place in Spain which stopped you from entering the country, then under the Package Travel Regulations you may have a claim for a refund.
It sounds however like it was more an issue of you not being able to leave home due to a localised tier 4 restriction. If this is the case then that would not be the responsibility of the tour operator or airline, that would potentially become a travel insurance claim. It appears however your travel insurance have refused your claim.
There will always be risks in booking things like holidays during a global pandemic and with travel restrictions often changing at short notice. It's a gamble and there will also be losers if gambling. I think you may have lost this time. Glad however you received some money back on the hotel and transfers.
If tempted to book in the near future I would recommend you do so with providers that have some time of booking pledge or guarantee on refunds, with rates that have flexibility, or that you book a package with a reputable tour operator.
