There's no such thing as a free lunch. Seems this has come back to bite the OP.

So glad we sold our house that had leased panels. Luckily our buyer was fine about them, and Santander dudnt need a deed if variation. But heard nightmares about other sales.
Check out the council of mortgage lenders handbook. Theres a section in there and it tells you which lenders will lend / wont lend or what they require to be able to lend
    Good luck.

@AdrianC and @edddy - thank you both for the clarification, very helpful.  It will be useful knowledge should I consider this at some point in the future.
  • I know this is an old thread but for balance, I bought a house with one of these roof lease, solar schemes in 2019. I have had no issues, the solicitor did all the work when I purchased not me and if there was any delay as a result I was not aware of it.

If I get benefit from it, great, if they do no prob either. I can use all standard energy tariffs and I never hear from them, don't have to do anything different from my last house with no solar panels and I don't have to pay anything out to anyone for the privilege of them being there. It's all pretty easy and I haven't come across any issues yet.

In fact they recently contacted me to do a free update on their meter because the 2G network it uses to communicate is being decommissioned, so they are replacing with 4G - good luck getting that in my area mind you! Either way not really my problem and not an inconvenience to me.
