Hello
I would be so grateful from advice of people who have recently bought a howdens kitchen or know how the system works.

ive had a quote for a Fairford kitchen and they have also quoted on some appliances and sink and tap etc but no worktops. We are most likely to get appliances etc elsewhere and only get cabinets etc from them. The quote seems very high to me. They have already come down £800 but still a huge amount of money at £9800!
the discounts offered range from 30-45%. Im waiting for a quote from DIY kitchens but would be really helpful to know what is a realist level of discount to expect? I’ve read online of discounts around 75% but the threads are older so not sure if this is still current.
any advice appreciated as tearing my hair out with all this kitchen stuff !!

I’ve attached the quote to see the breakdown.
Thanks in advance !!

  • Speaking from experience of having Howdens work fitted I would not touch them, its shoddy mdf.
go to magnet trade miles better.

Thank you, I’ll have a look at Magnet as haven’t considered them.

I think Howdens kitchens are good quality, Magnet yes likely to be better and DIY kitchens also good.  Wickes are not standard sizes.  I am just not a fan of Howdens smoke and mirrors pricing.  Every builder will tell you they get the biggest discount with Howdens.  45-50% discount is reasonable but always depends on what it is.  Additional 10% in October for annual sale.

Copy your Howdens parts list into the DIY Kitchens website to get a quote from them, then get Howdens to price match it.

Having bought both Howdens and DIY kitchens, I'd go with DIY Kitchens every day. Having the cupboards completely built (including doors) is well worth it

  • I agree with mug2007 the howdens pricing is crazy depending on the trade person you get anything from 30 to 70% off the price. Most mass produced kitchen units these days are either chipboard or mdf with a laminate type covering. so I would shop around if you have a list of the units you want sizes etc the quotes from suppliers should be easy & save you loads. Also I have found howdens appliance prices even with the discount are more expensive

This topic is really interesting for me as I'm looking at my options for getting a new kitchen at some point in the future. Does DIY kitchens do any discounts or sales, or is the price shown on the website exactly what you will get charged? Thanks!

Great advice! That is exactly what we have done.

Howdens quote was MDF / DIY solid wood. TBF Howdens will now price-match their solid wood choice. As we started at £31K with Howdens which DIY came in at £15K, and have since tinkered with the DIY planner so are at £20K, Lord knows what the full Howdens price would be.

Will update you when I get the numbers....

I would be really ticked off if I got a quote for £31k and then found an equal product for £20k. Regardless of price matching, wouldn't people prefer to buy from a business that offers a fair price at the outset? A few hundred pounds difference fair enough, but £10k?  Why would you be spending your hard earned with a business that was happy to rip you off. Anyone who knows a decent kitchen fitter needs to just look elsewhere.
