PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Chain questions

  • You set the deadline. Tell the EA a date and say if not by then I'm out. Cite the mortgage expiry as a reason. Focus the attention of the person at the top. Play hardball in a polite but firm manner.

This is what we’re trying, we’ve set a firm deadline but will apply for the mortgage extension anyway and just not tell anyone (until we have to). As far as EA is concerned this is a hard deadline and we no longer have a mortgage offer after that. Now obviously he’s not an idiot, and neither are the other vendors, so they will know an extension is an option, but we hope the pressure will still help.

2 weeks after our ‘hard deadline’ the stamp duty holiday deadline hits, which I imagine is everyone else’s ‘hard deadline’ so pressure from the whole chain will be focussed to the top, so I’m really hoping this won’t last much longer.
  • Can't offer much help, but I can definitely sympathise. Been trying to buy since July and just been hit with so much bad luck along the way. Can definitely relate to the feeling of just wanting a win for once.
