Does wall need an end pillar or other form of reinforcement

Hi, i'm intending to build a 9" solid brick wall approx 2.5 meters high and 5m long. One end will be attached to an extension I'm building with the other end freestanding.
Basically this will run down one side of our patio to create a quiet corner out of the prevailing wind. it will get quite a bit of wind as there are few houses and not enough trees around to slow winds and breezes down.
Does it need some support at the free end or is a 9" wall strong enough in itself . If it needs pillar or other reinforcement does it also need a buttress half way along?
Thanks

IMO, it does need a pillar or, even better, a corner at the end. And it needs a really good foundation in the first place.

Yes, it'll need a pillar, and maybe one at the half way point, depending on the wind load. (which is dependent on the place in the country, surrounding buildings, what way the wall faces, elevation etc)

As the planned wall is going to be 2.5m high, then you may well need to apply for planning permission as the limit for garden walls is normally 2m or 1m if it is next to a road and part of this procedure may involve getting the specifications approved so a reputable builder should be able to let you know exactly what you need with regards to supports and foundations.

Thanks all - think I'll put a T end pillar on and also bond the wall into the raised patio base which by the wall is a large concrete slab that used to be steps. Will still be 2.1m tall above the bonded 'pivot' point but better none the less0

Put a photo one when it's finished.0
