180degC with fan = what temp in the actual oven?

Options
If I stick a temp gauge in the oven for the above settings what should the temp gauge read please?  Its either going to be 180degC  or 200degC (ish).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

  • I would guess, (but hey I've not got a great record with my guesses B) 180C but to be really sure I would suspend the probe away from any fixed bits.

Why do you think it might be different from the setting?

(noting that ovens can be pretty inaccurate!)

    Approx 180.

You are probably referring to the fact that on cooking instructions the fan oven temperature  is usually 10-20 degrees below conventional oven but that is because the fan oven is better at transferring heat to the food due to the fan moving the hot air around the oven so it cooks faster.

Temperature should be approx 180 give or take 5/10 degrees

It will fluctuate...like your boiler isn’t constantly on when your central heating to 21c so does the heating element turn off and on during cooking. The level of fluctuations the system allows is often argued as one of the signs of quality with poorer systems allowing wider swings

Without the fan the temperature in the oven will vary, top to bottom and near and far from the elements. With the fan on it should be more even. It will be around 180°C, give or take quite a lot.
