Best place to buy shares over 5 year period

Hey all,
Apologies if this I have put this thread in the wrong place.
I am looking to start buying shares on a monthly basis @£100 per month over a 5 year period.
Rather than just dumping it into an ISA I want a bit of fun in the process.
Any tips on the best platform would be great. I've read a few reviews on the main sites and the trust pilot reviews are awful.
Apologies for sounding like a complete and utter Noon.
Many thanks

What does 'best' look like to you? For some it's all about minimising costs, for others it's range of available investments, others like customer service, app availability, financial stability, support for multiple currencies, etc, etc....
The prevailing advice on here is very much that buying individual shares is a high risk activity, especially for newbies, and that if you're serious about investing then you'd be better served diversifying via collective investments such as funds, but then again if you're serious about investing you shouldn't have any expectation that it'll be fun. Having said that, even if you are just playing about, there's no particular reason not to use the tax shelter of an ISA, which would potentially reduce tax in the future if you got lucky....1 -

I am looking to start buying shares on a monthly basis @£100 per month over a 5 year period. When I first started buying shares, it was £500+ per share, I now double that. With the costs involved of buying shares, it may take you 6/12 months until you have enough capital to buy shares.Buying shares is generally between £5/£12 per share.0 -
I'd suggest Vanguard funds to start the ball rolling. Decent portfolios take years to build. If you want fun go down the bookies.

If you've not bought shares before, I would suggest that £100 every month is too much to start with. It's better to start with, and learn with, a small amount.
Platforms that are worth investigating include AJBell, Degiro and x-o.co.uk. As sevenhills mentioned, it did not used to be economical to invest less than £500 in shares but that has changed. There are many "commission free" brokers around which I have not tried. x-o.co.uk charge £6 per trade, Degiro charge £1.75 (plus a few pennies) per trade.1
