Carnival PLC shares

Several years ago I inherited some Carnival plc shares. periodically I used to receive a dividend cheque through the post but when I tried to pay them in to the bank it was more expensive to deposit the cheque in dollars than their value, so I've just put them to one side and forgot about them. However, having seen the Money Saving Expert on tv I realised that this will, by now, amount to quite a lot of money to which I am entitled. The problem is that I do not know how to go about claiming the money. Will Carnival pay me all the money for the cheques that have not been deposited - they will be able to see from their records that they were never cashed? Should I expect them to pay me in sterling or is there a bank in this country that will accept the dollars without charging me a large amount for doing it? Can anyone help or, at least, tell me where to go to get this kind of advice?

Suggest you contact their company registrar and they should explain the process to claim the uncashed dividends.
Also consider joining their automatic dividend reinvestment program.

Which Carnival stock do you hold. Dividends on Carnival plc ordinary shares are paid in sterling automatically unless there are instructions to the contrary.

By default holders of Carnival Corporation common stock and Carnival plc ADSs will receive the dividend payable in U.S. dollars.

As you still have the cheques, it should be a straightforward process to contact the registrar and ask for the payments to be reissued. If you are lucky, they will do this with a single cheque. The contact details for the registrar should be on the correspondence that accompanied the cheques. The last time I deposited a dollar cheque, the bank charge was £10 per cheque and it took a few weeks to process.
You can investigate the possibility of transferring the shares into a nominee account. With nominee accounts dividends are usually held in the nominee account as a cash balance until you decide to withdraw or do something else with the balance.
