I've just moved in to a house, it has a driveway the width of the house but quite a narrow dropped kerb with a small opening onto the driveway, and the driveway isn't very deep. You would have to go through the correct channels at the Council, but they may be prepared to allow you to do this, subject to various fees. We widened our drive by knocking our wall partially down, widening the dropped kerb and removing part of the grass verge but we had to get permission from the Council and pay them a fee, fill in various forms and supply the Council with measurements and drawings to indicate what we wanted and we had to use their preferred contractor to do the job. Then it had to be signed off. Total cost was around £1500, but this was about 15 years ago.
