From experience, I knew secretaries who were told / written down in their employment contracts to be able to stay for 30 mins when required for free. Overtime only began from 31 mins. Obviously, they were paid the market rate.0

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was never work for free. Your daughter doesn't owe her employer anything, it is strictly a business relationship. if they want your daughter's time, they should pay for it.Whether it is possible to make a s**t British employer pay up, with our pathetic employment laws, is another question. Too often the only option when an employer tries it on, is seek different employment.0

Thrugelmir said:People that walk out the door on the dot. Will be unproductive in the time beforehand. Intentionally looking busy doing nothing when they aren't. Is the oldest trick in the book. Management may well have issues with other staff members. Hence the policy. In that case the policy should also apply to management. They can be fitted with gps tracking, have their computers monitored and cameras in their offices. Any unproductive time will be deducted from their pay.I am sure that they would have no problem with such a policy, as it would improve workplace productivity and reduce costs.0

In what way is she getting bullied by the supervisor and manager?I’m assuming you think it’s relevant to the saying 5 minutes late given that you’ve mentioned it?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
It’s not reasonable to ask staff to work on after shift ends on an unpaid basis. Staff should be paid for the hours which they are required to work. Some care settings have a TOIL (Time Off in Lieu) book for recording the occasional time worked beyond end of shift e,g.where client sustained fall (towards end of shift) and this to be documented by staff.Teamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself

What does she have to do for the 5 mins after shift? Does she work up to finishing time, then hand over and sign out etc or work up to finishing time plus 5 as normal, then handover and sign out.Slips36 said:My daughter works in a care home and she has been told to stay 5-10 mins past her finish time. She getting bullied by the supervisor and the manager as well. Can they insist on her staying 5-10 mins after her finish time?
Is the bullying related to working hours or different? We can't help on that point without fuhrer info.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
