Netflix scam

Options
I got an email today to my inbox rather than the spam folder proporting to be from Netflix and they were telling me that my subscription expires in 2 days and I should renew it now and get a discount.
All well and good but I don't now and never will have a Netflix subscription.

I hate emails like that.

  • This is just standard spam email, it has been going on for as long as online purchases existed and it will go on until AI/MLA advances to the point that they can recognise and delete these emails with a near zero-false positive rate.

As above, this has been doing the rounds for years, just different company names at the top.

A quick check of my email would suggest I've had 6 different emails for 5 companies just today (my email account is actually 6 in 1, I can't be bothered to check what's gone where).

Ignore and report to spam should work.

Already reported it as phishing but it annoys me it got to my inbox rather than to the spam folder.
Yes these emails have been doing the rounds for years but they have always gone straight into Spam but now they must have changed somehow (I can't see any difference) and Hotmail no longer recognises it as spam.

I don't use Hotmail to aggregate emails, but Yandex, because it separates all emails into one inbox with relative ease, and any replies are auto-sent from the e-mail address it was sent to, so I can't answer this. I use the same e-mail account for personal use (under one e-mail address) and multiple business interests (under various others), so this may not be a reasonable solution for you.

My spam emails do largely go to spam, and if one is missed, moving it to spam folder stops similar emails from entering my inbox. Similarly moving something from spam to inbox seems to whitelist the sender. I'd assume that Hotmail is similar.

  • Some email providers are better than others at filtering spam, I find my google is pretty decent at catching spam whereas yahoo is absolutely appalling
