End of PCP - BCA how strict are they? Should I or shouldn't I?

Hello All,
I am due to hand my Toyota Yaris back as it is near the end of the PCP agreement - looking at the fair wear and tear policy I have a few issues which has me a bit worried. My other half decided to be a gentleman and scrape the snow off the roof of my car with a snow shovel! yes you read that right a snow shovel! but he was trying to be helpful so I can't complain. My concern is this has resulted in a few long scratches on the roof of the car (which my nail can go in and out of so can't buff out) - I have had several quotes and I am looking at £500 for a roof respray. I was wondering if anyone has experience of BCA and do I get the roof resprayed or chance handing the car back which could result in a much higher expense?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How confident are the respray guys in matching the paint and leaving a top notch finish? Was it a metal or plastic shovel and do the scratches go right through to the primer?
  • The guys are pretty good looking at their reviews and I did explain the car is PCP.  The shovel had metal tips on the end and this is what caused the damage and yes my blue car has go faster white lines so it's gone through to the primer! 😭

We had BCA collect our black TT in January last year. They note everything. We were charged for 2 tyres that had a tiny nick in them and we were charged for a scuff on one side (again tiny). Unfortunately that is their job to note these things.

I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.
  • Yeah they'll bill you for that. The gamble is whether you can get it fixed cheaper than they'll bill you.

I think it's safe to say, they'll notice.

Trouble with getting the whole panel sprayed is cost and the cost BCA might add on again if it's a bad job.

Have you thought about asking a local car detailer?

If they can't repair it themselves, they'll know someone that might be able to do a more local repair (SMART) to cover the scratches. That should be cheaper.

When I handed back my car, not with BCA, they did a paint thickness test at random points around the car (seemed those most likely to be bumped) and called out that one corner was much thicker than the rest. Must admit I gave a half truth and they moved on... not sure what would have been the outcome if I had admitted that it had had a dink that had been resprayed. Certainly they didnt call out anything on the visual inspection.

Firstly I'd invest in a bottle of T-Cut and see how much you can reduce the severity of those scratches. They're not going to magically vanish, but it might reduce the visible damage and the quote.

  • What does WBAC or equivalent give you as a price? _Might_ be worth comparing what they'll give with the scratches, compared to your outstanding loan + cost of repair.
  • Had a BCA PCP deal ending the first week in January. They billed me for needing to respray the splitter under the front bumper which had scraped the ground coming out a local petrol station I used a few times.

Just to be clear you couldn't even see the damage unless you were under the car - they are extremely thorough.
