Selling Designer handbags on Ebay

I have a Chanel handbag (has been authenticated) to sell for a friend.
Is Ebay a good option for this?
I have looked at other sales sites but fees are between 20%/30% of sale price, and friend needs all the money she can get as she has been left in svere financial straits.
Thanks for any advice.

No it's a scammers high priority target, it will go for more than you expect because scammers don't care what the bid is as in the end they won't be paying for it. Cynical, yes but it's what you now expect from Ebay with high value items, just not worth the risk.

There are better options, the value of the bag can be found using Google so then you use a face to face site to sell it for a fair price, Gumtree, Facebook market place etc.

It'll almost 95 percent be the target of scammers on Ebay sadly - better off with something like this to sell it on a face to face basis where it can be checked inspected and paid for. Fb marketplace works - but it does tend to block out certain brands due to the number of fakes. Just make sure that wherever you sell it - you don't send it anywhere until there are absolutely totally and without doubt cleared funds sitting in your bank account. Don't fall for someone emailing you a fake PayPal payment email, or the promise to send you cash by UPS or any other kind of scam. It's a relatively difficult item to sell which is a bit of a pain when you have a real one.

Alternatively, they might initially pay for it, and then raise a SNAD dispute and send you back a fake version, while getting a refund through eBay or PayPal.
(I might also suggest that selling an expensive item for a friend is a very risky thing to do. There are lots of things which can go awry, regardless of where you sell it, and you risk losing both the item and the friendship).

  • Vestiaire Collective.  Relatively expensive for sellers but it's not the wild west and it is a go-to site for people looking for genuine designer goods.

Apart from the problems mentioned it may also fall foul of Ebay's VERO which limits sales of certain brands.

Very true it's not the wild west and worth investigating.
Several years ago i heard it being condemned for not inspecting thoroughly enough and a fake getting through their check points.

OP, there's somewhere in London and can't remember its name now.
Also, NaughtiPidgins Nest is a small scale seller and probably the most reputable for UK sales.
