Using iPhone in the car? SOLVED

I record things from BBC onto my old iPhone CE to listen to when walking. However when in the car, 2013 Ford Cmax, when I start it the phone goes silent!
Is there a way I can listen whilst driving, perhaps through the car radio?
Obviously I will set it up whilst stationary and not use the phone whilst driving.

Just a guess here but the only way your phone would have any idea that your car has been switched on is if it is paired to the sound system via Bluetooth for the phone integration. Have you ever paired your phone to your car with Bluetooth?
You should be able to listen while driving, depends on the sound system installed, some older cars use a jack cable, newer ones use Bluetooth.
Try either:
1. Switching Bluetooth off on your phone an see if it still goes silent when you switch your car on
2. Try selecting the 'AUX' or 'BT' input selection on the sound system to see if the iPhone is playing through the car.1 -
My car (Nissan) is synced to my phone for hands free calling (thus, it's silent whilst driving) - I have to mess with the settings to get it to play from my phone.

Yes the phone syncs for hand free calls but I cannot get it to play downloaded recordings. Will go and try the above sugestions.0

Older versions of Bluetooth support hands free calling but don't support audio transfer. If that's the case you will need an fm transmitter to transmit to an unused fm radio frequency. That might be the easiest way anyway.1

Try turning up the volume on the phone. I think my iphone X has a separate volume setting for playing out through DAB, so I wasn't hearing anything when my 2011 C-Max picked up the Bluetooth, until I turned the volume up.

Thanks all, I managed to get it working! I found by trial and error not to used the phone setting on the radio but to plug the phone into the charging point and select aux! So obvious when I think about it.
So happy motoring when I am allowed to.1
