No problem - just pop it in under the CDRW.
Will have a plug on the same connector that gos to the CDRW, just need to make DVD slave by moving jumper.
Easy job

Another question if anyone can help.
Will this pc cope with basic video editing - I have some 8mm camcorder tapes that I want to burn to dvd.
Thanks in advance

Hi Matt
This machine is more than capable of doing any video editing you want to do.
You might want to add a firewire card, the only cost about £10 and are automatically recognised and set up.
Go for it!

For those wanting to upgrade the spec, consider this other Dell offer below
PPUK5 d06842
Price = £738 Includes VAT & Shipping
I know its a higher price but if you upgrade the PC in this thread to the above spec it comes out way above £738
It has :
Intel® Pentium 4 processor with HT technology 640 (3.20GHz, 800FSB, 2MB cache)
16x max. DVD +/- RW with dual layer write capability
1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz [2x512]
320GB Serial ATA RAID 0 Stripe [2x160GB 7200rpm drives with DataBurst™ cache]
3.5in 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Dell E193FP 19" Value Flat Panel Monitor (upgradeable to the very good 1905FP Ultrasharp for just £23.50)
(Thanks to Rayman for pointing this one out to me )0 -

I thought you should be aware of what RAID 0 is:
The 2 hard drives (160GB each in this instance) work simultaneously to provide fast seeking time. However, if one hard drive fails, then they both fail, as they are linked together. Also, the hard drives do not appear as 2x160GB hard drive but as 1x320GB.
If anyone is thinking about changing this to RAID 1, then that's even worse:
RAID 1 is where the total of two drives' storage only appears as one. Therefore, if you have 2x160GB hard drives configured in RAID 1, the total storage amount that appears on the PC is 160GB. The only benefit is that whatever is written on the 1st hard drive is automatically re-written on the 2nd one, so that if one fails, the other still works. But in effect, you are paying for storage and only being able to use half of it.
I would highly recommend getting the 250GB Sata Hard Drive (or 400GB Sata Hard Drive if you can afford it!) and then installing a further hard drive in the future.
RAID is only recommended for hardcore gamers or if you are very worried about losing important data.Waddle you do eh?0 -
