Under Northern Ireland's rules, it is a reasonable excuse "to obtain goods or services from any business listed in Part 2 of Schedule 1". "Motor vehicle repair and MOT services" is one of the businesses listed. So if you are buying from a dealer that also does repairs, as far as I know you are not breaking the law in NI.
However you could still be stopped by police and sent back home. They only need a reasonable belief you're breaking the rules and even if in fact you're not, you still have to do as you're told.
Now with UK regs, the ferry, and the Brexit mess thrown in, things would be much simpler if you can buy in NI.
  • I don't think there will be any car transport companies picking up cars on the mainland before the 5 March and after that will depend on restrictions being lifted.
Price wise having a car delivered here from Surrey will be around £400+vat.
  • there is transporting going on they have increase the priced about 300 a car in recent times. i was working it out i could fly and get a boat back to NI including my fuel to drive for about 200 but with restrictions in place not so good for me.

most of the dealers are open for sales here. They all offer click and deliver options!!

Ring the number on their website.

what make model are you after??
  • its a nissan leaf, i have seen 2 that I could go with 1 in blackpool and the other is in Ayr, but they would deliver it to cairnryan port for me.

Now you mention it, has anyone got one of the newer long range leafs (leaves?)? How far do they actually go in the real world, with lights on, wipers going, etc?

Maybe not worth importing due to requirement to pay VAT on the purchase price since 1 Jan?

  • Have the one in Ayr delivered to Cairnryan, go across as a foot passenger and bring it back on the return ferry.
