are ebay using QR codes now? if so how does that work?

A Friends and Family payment has no seller protection? I thought it was the opposite - that is had no buyer protection. How would someone do a chargeback for F&F (given that you can't claim for SNAD or DNR as F&F is a gift, not given in exchange for anything)?

An INR or SNAD claim wouldn’t work but a chargeback for fraud would. Buyer (scammer) tells bank he doesn’t recognise payment and did not authorise it , bank charges back to PayPal, PayPal charge seller. I’m sure we all have had one or more of these claims for fraud over the years , in normal years I would expect to get one or two.ElefantEd said:A Friends and Family payment has no seller protection? Normally a seller has full seller protection if they merely show proof of posting to the address given by PayPal as OK to send, with that proof you can’t lose, PayPal either take the loss themselves or go back to bank with evidence that payment was authorised. With F and F there is no address and therefore no proof of posting so seller cannot invoke seller protection.PayPal take the money back and charge the seller extra for the privilege.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I haven’t seen one so I’m not entirely sure but others on here have used them. I imagine it is something like a collection code but which requires a smart phone with scanning ability. Seller exchanges a scan of QR code for the goods, if buyer claims non receipt the code proves buyer collected. This protects against an eBay INR claim, but NOT a paypal one, hence it only working for those sellers on managed payments.challengedavid said:are ebay using QR codes now? if so how does that work?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ah ok So the QR code isn't available to everyone, that's disappointing, thanks for clearing that up.soolin said:
I alluded to this in my first post , as PayPal is involved OP is not on managed payments so the QR code is no good for protection as it only protects against an eBay claim not a PayPal one. . If OP had been on managed payments, and if courier was prepared to use the scan , and I’m not sure how that would work now with no contact pick ups and collections, then the QR code would work.bris said:
Yes but surely the issues would be the buyers not the sellers.soolin said:
You are correct, a courier sent by buyer opens a new level of issues.challengedavid said:"you can ask the buyer to arrange for a courier to collect."
please dont ask them this, as far as i understand it the couriers contract is with person who takes it out, so if it goes missing or damaged you have no recourse and your buyer might not help
but i could be wrong
Technically a collection only item is the buyers responsibility so them sending a courier is as good as them picking it up themselves, no?
The biggest problem is the Paypal, to accept Paypal on a collection only item is its own can of worms.
Isn't there a way now to protect yourself from Paypal claims with collection only though? A scan or something? Either way the risk is the same with Paypal and collection.0 -
It’s being rolled out and becoming more common , some people don’t bother using it and some avoid anything ‘new’ and of course as mentioned earlier it doesn’t work as protection against a PayPal claim hence it only being suitable for those on managed payments.bris said:

So sorry for not responding earlier but I thought I would give an update.
I replied to the seller and told them that I wasn't prepared to arrange a courier but would happily liaise with any courier that they wished to arrange (it was a bulky item so not something you could take to a drop off point on your way home!) which they did.
The item was picked up yesterday by a national courier and I immediately added the tracking details to both paypal and ebay as the payment had got put on hold.
Tracking has confirmed it was delivered today so hopefully the funds will be released in the next day or two.
