Dodgy W key on laptop

Options
It's a Dell inspiron. Sometimes I have to hit the w key 2-3 times to get a result. Any ideas please? Can I take the key off to clean? ?

Assuming no spillages have occurred then sometimes this can be due to something stuck underneath and often crumbs of food are likely candidates.
First couple of things I would try are to get some sort of small brush and carefully get some of the bristles to nudge around under the W key - an unused paintbrush would be ideal.
Also, turn off lap top and place on its side, tap the keys a few times - the W key and also the keys around.  Repeat with the keyboard upside down.
You can take the keytop off and push it back on it but it can be a scary thing to do if you haven't done it before but prising the keytop off probably wont get you much further on as there is not too much more you can do once the key is off than I have already described above.
    Hope this helps.

Also - try hoovering the keyboard with a brush attachment if you have one.

Thanks again, I threaded a bit of dental floss under the key and gently eased it back and forth. That's a complete sentence without a wwwwwwwwwww  seems OK now

My P key is a piece of bluetac, I took the lid off to clean out a particularly stuck crumb but snapped the connection part. It works perfectly well.
  • Are you taking the bluetac?       :)
