Hi all, booked a trip in March 2020 to Sri Lanka in multiple hotels with excursions booked and then the maldives. Had what I thought was good travel insurance but then the covid19 pandemic hit. We couldn't go and insurance company wouldn't cover it. We payed by credit card and they said they would refund if the trip got cancelled but it didn't and the flight still went even though sri lanka wouldn't accept people into the country. We had no choice at the time other than pay to change the date to a year later which cost an extra £1000. Now its looking most likely we can't go again this March but luxtripper said the trip is still going ahead. Do we try and negotiate another date now or hold out to see if the trip gets cancelled and request our money back? I think they will try everything they can to keep the money but 10k is too much to lose on a gamble. Luxtripper is only ATOL protected and not part of the ABTA scheme that I didn't know even existed until I started to look into all of this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Adrian

International travel is going to remain curtailed for the foreseeable future.0

So how can a guarantee to get my money back?0

If it's a package that you've booked (your ATOL certificate will confirm this), then you have the right to cancel with a full refund under the Package Travel Regulations "in the event of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances occurring at the place of destination or its immediate vicinity and which significantly affect (a) the performance of the package, or (b) the carriage of passengers to the destination", so it should be possible to make this case if the destination isn't allowing visitors.0

Probably best to change the dates to some time in the future, or it sounds like the price could go up.0
