Thanks for posting this, I have THE same problem,
I am going to try a solution tho, if it works I will come back to you and let you know how I got on.
Moral of the story , which I have now learned NEVER used Discount eVouchers Gift Cards and Never Shop at Currys PCWorld (they misinformed me on 5 occasions, have stock and have not delivered to me on 7 occasions.)
And they REALLY do not CARE and that really annoys me
*update I did get a call from the service team today, They really are swamped with Covid but I may get my phone before the new model comes out

I've not seen anything on the blue light scheme that can't be bettered by shopping around, except for the local cinema.0

They wouldnt know how the giftcard was paid for. In theory you could bounce it along the same chain backwards so get currys to put it back to the gift card and then ask the gift card company to put it back to your debit card but undoubtedly the gift card has a no refund policy so hence you get stuck where you are.Davelench said:Thank you Sandtree.
I did consider the money laundering aspect (at the time as considering the forbidden “getting cash back from a credit card transaction” scenario) but I paid for it by debit card from my current account so if it went back to the same account I don’t think it could be classed as laundering.
Wasnt sure on your "cash back from a credit card" was talking about a refund situation, in which case its identical no matter how you paid or meaning cashback where you buy something for £20 but ask for £10 cashback on top so pay £30 by card get your goods and a £10 note... if the later then that isnt AML but the fact that debit cards charge between 4p-50p to the merchant irrespective of transaction size whereas credit and charge cards charge 0.5% to 4% of the transaction and so giving you cashback on a debit card costs them nothing and means less cashing up but on a credit card they'd give you £10 but only get £9.70 into their account so lose 30p for doing it.0 -
In addition to the above, remember Currys didnt get £999, they got circa £800 or less and so for them to refund you they'd be out of pocket and the middleman you bought the card from would still be sitting on their cut from the transaction.Davelench said:Yes, true. But I have records of transactions which can trace back to the source. All hypothetical though as it seems a dead cert that I’ll be offered gift cards when they finally contact me.0
