Final goodbye...cheated by Covid

I would ask the vet to come out to the car to do it.
If they would not then I would ask around other vets.
My friend has all her animals pts in the boot of her car.
My vet allows one person in with an animal . We wait in the car park after phoning in to say we have arrived. The vet or nurse comes out for us and takes us to the consulting room. They use two rooms, both beside a door so no walking through the building. The rooms are cleaned after each consultation. masks must be worn and hand sanitiser used on entry.
When covid first started I read of people having to tie their dog up at the door and leave it.The vet then came out to take it in to pts. I think that is cruel and no way would I have done that to my pet.1 -
Horrible situation.I read a petition v recently that someone's started to permit 1 person to attend the visit taking appropriate covid precautions.2

She’s a very timid cat and will be 19 in a few weeks. I’m devastated. I will do what’s best for her regardless but I feel sad for her as it will be totally alien, she’s only been to vet 3 times in her life2

Glad you read the update and know she is still with you and I that you have found a kind vet. A vet who has loved and cherished there own pet would have a certain understanding.1 -

Well, the inevitable happened 😥 but thanks to the home visit suggestions, I did find one. He came out yesterday evening, Fudge was so relaxed that she never got out of her bed and chatted to us the whole time. And believe it or not, the bill ( including the home visit) was cheaper than my regular vet. Tbh, I was expecting it to have been double what it wasLBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors

It's always a sad loss, but please take comfort that you did right by your cat and made the effort to make her last moments peaceful and familiar. We had to have a large dog put down in 2019, so pre-Covid. In the end it was an emergency job and I ended up paying £600 for an out of hours specialist home euthanasia. It is a huge amount of money to us, but I never regretted it for a moment as she deserved that and more, to go where she was peaceful at 10pm on a Sunday night before a Bank Holiday Monday! My last memories of her are falling asleep at home, and I am so grateful I have that as it's not always possible.Your cat was lucky to you and you will treasure your memories with her.2

So sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a beloved pet who has been part of the family is heart breaking. Take comfort of the fact that she lived to a good age for a cat and you were able to be with her at the end as well as save her the last journey to the vets.
We had this with our 2nd cat few years ago - our regular vet came to do a home visit and despite the sadness and the loss, it was very stress free, dignified and peaceful way to go, especially for an elderly cat who was unwell.

Agree with others, ask them to come out or else look for another vet. We have to take Covid very seriously and I can understand vets not letting people in for simple checks/vaccines (although ours does), but they should let you in when they are being PTS if you want to. Try some of the smaller independent practices, in my experience of the last year they seem to be the ones more willing to be flexible (and are generally better practices overall, Covid or not).0
