Refund for postponed event - over £500

Due to covid a business conference due to take place in Barcelona in June 2020 was postponed to June 2021.
I can’t make the new dates even if covid restrictions are relaxed by then.
I’ve emailed the event organisers and they have refused to give me a refund.

I’ve looked into their company and they are Hong Kong-based.
The ticket was bought pre-covid through my small limited company, at a cost of over £500.
Do I have any chance of getting my money back or are they allowed to just keep it? Seems extremely unfair and it’s a lot of money to my business.

This is a business transaction so not a consumer rights issue. Even if it was and they were UK based, unless they state that you can cancel you would have no rights to do so.
  • So they’ve basically just stolen £500 from me - that’s what it feels like.

is there no body I can appeal to or something, like a small claims court?

They haven't stolen anything from you as the event is going ahead, not their fault you cannot go.
  • As above, if the terms are that refunds aren't provided if you don't attend, that's it.  You may find that they can't host the event in June, in which case it may be postponed to dates you can make.

Where - Hong Kong? Possibly, though I doubt it would be straightforward.
