Bathroom Tile: Colour Help - I can't decide

What colour tile would others pair with a taupe cabinet and white bathroom suite?

I want to tile the floor, bath panel and the wall behind the bath.

Unfortunately, due to my colour deficiency and taupe containing a hint of brown I struggle to fully appreciate the exact shade, I'm never sure if the colour I am looking at goes with my choice (it all looks a lot more grey to me).

This is the colour and cabinet https://www.diy.com/departments/goodhome-imandra-gloss-taupe-vanity-basin-cabinet-w-800mm-h-600mm/1665416_BQ.prd

Thanks

Taupe is a notoriously difficult colour to match because it covers so many shades from pinky-beige to greeny-grey. Also because the unit is glossy it will appear different colours in different lights. You might be able to find a complimentary colour, but unless/until you can check samples side-by-side it will be really difficult to see what looks best. The alternative is to replace  the cabinet with a white or wooden finish.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Thanks I am learning the hard way with this shade to be honest...Unfortunately,  I removed a white cabinet and replaced it with Taupe :D !!  In normal circumstances when choosing colour combinations I often get friends and family to pick from samples but obviously can't do that at the moment due to covid restrictions.  I am useless at picking colours anyway and normally the shade I think I have purchased isn't what the people around me tell me it is.

  • I would stick with white for maximum flexibility. A number of shades will go with the taupe, although I have no problem with Imandra as a product (I used a different finish in my own) I can't stand gloss and this shade is particularly drab. Even a very light beige will contribute to the overall feeling of drabness.

Thanks, unfortunately sticking with a white cabinet isn't an option at this moment in time.  The question I have asked is about possible colour combinations (tiles) based on a taupe cabinet.

Navy blue.  Navy blue with white and taupe makes a classic combination in clothing.

What colours do you like?  The colour I would probably avoid is grey as it's a bit close to taupe, but cream would definitely go, greens would go, teals, even pink.  It is a pretty flexible colour.

White is of course classic.  Maybe painting some of walls in taupe, keep it classic.

Pinterest is your friend!  Ironically, your cabinet popped up in my Pinterest search for 'taupe bathroom cabinet' and the colour B&Q picked is the last colour I'd pick.  It looks insipid.

'Taupe bathroom ideas' came up with prettier pictures.

Thats a nice call I did also think some shade of blue .  I am trying to avoid grey because  in most lighting levels I only see a shade of grey in those cabinets.  A few people who have seen photos and the person who installed it say it has a green/grey hint but to me it is definitely grey and no green though in slightly lower light levels my eyes see a shade of brown.

I would go with white tiles, then use blinds, bath mats and towels for pops of colour.
If you get fed up with one colour, it will be easy to change.

Tiling is a big job that's not going to be repeated in a hurry, which is why white is the most flexible option. As long as its kept scrupulously clean then it will always look fresh and as you say accessories can provide the visual updates.

I didn't see this when I posted last night - so the cabinet's already in place? This is going to be tricky unless you can wait for another eyes-on opinion. OTOH something I have realised is that I have spent a long time and a lot of money in the past getting things "just right" and in truth they haven't made an iota of difference to my happiness over time. Don't make perfection the enemy of the good.
