Different car insurance quotes

Options
my car insurance is due for renewal next month so i thought i would have a look in advance. Looked on most comparison sites and moneysupermarket is coming in with cheapest quotes .But i have been unemployed since september last year however when i put this in my quote jumps up  for example   £183 for unemployed  £174 for independant means  £158 for house husband and £150 for retired.  So i think i am going to class myself as retired as i am not going to be looking for employment, my question is  does anyone know of any other sites or ways of getting cheaper car insurance .

Are you of an age where "retired" is plausible?
Whether fair or not, the insurance companies go on past risk profiles and there may be a concept that the retired are financially stable and mature (as they ever will be) while the unemployed are less so and possibly more likely (as a group) to make hopeful claims.
The way  to get insurance at a good price is to use the price comparison sites plus the handful of companies that are not on the comparison sites.  Apparently about 3 weeks before renewal gets the best rate.
Given you are at £150ish, I doubt you will get much lower as this must be towards minimum premium level.
Have you optimised the mileage you do per year if no longer commuting?

I'm 60 now so that's plausible i have tried all the main comparison sites just waiting on a quote from unite union site, had cheap holiday insurance off them in the past. I just thought it odd the differences between the prices for basically the same situation  (not working) Not had my renewal quote back yet so may get a suprise ,  not holding my breath though.

At £150 you are going to be below the floor of many insurers minimum premium. Aggregators like confused.com charge the seller £50 or more and so the premium the insurer is really getting is sub £100 when you take off the IPT. You could look at the direct insurers that dont play on the aggregators like Direct Line or telephone the likes of Admiral who can be keep to price match but you'll spend a lot of time for minimal reward.

If you do decide to get another job in the future, make sure you tell the insurance company. Most of them remove the commuting cover as soon as you put down retired.

I’d also check the definition of retired. You’re not state retirement age and if you’re not receiving your pension it may leave you in a difficult position if you ever need to claim and  employment status. Especially if the insurer checks the application record and sees you’ve put in a few different employment statuses and chosen a lower cost one. I don’t think it matters if you consider yourself retired, just make sure the insurer agrees with that!

I'm surprised the anti-fraud pricing hasn't kicked in yet.

So i think i am going to class myself as retired as i am not going to be looking for employment,
Unemployed is for people signing on.  Retired is the intention to never work again.

My mum retired at 47 as she became permanently paralysed. She never had any issues with her insurance (although she didn’t drive she had other insurance like home insurance etc)

Think it will be best to pick my quote and then give them a ring to qualify things.

As always, when doing dummy quotes to use dummy details and use a VPN. If you don't, anti manipulation software will kick in and you may get very high prices or alot of sites simply won't quote. Has happened before on here.

I don't bother with above myself, because I don't see the point in putting fake details, your going to buy it anyways with real details. So no point in entering data for the umpteen time to see if your getting ripped off for being in the wrong profession/gender/age
