Renewing property insurance when existing tenants were employed but now on universal credit

Options
Property insurance is due for renewal and I have pre-existing tenants. The way that quote sites word things make you feel like you still have to put tenants in. I'm managing that okay. Are all quote sites care of Simply Business so there's no point using different quote sites to compare other than the companies that don't use quote sites to advertise themselves?
I observe that there is no choice re types of tenants selection on the quotes for those who are now on universal credit because they have been incapacitated so long they can't be employed until the NHS rectify their health problem. Unemployed means unemployed which means more expense for landlord (higher insurance costs), which means increasing rent for folks already struggling.

Simply Business has rather hovered up the market for doing SME (including landlords) insurance for comparison sites but as you have noted they are simply a broker. Treat them the same as getting a quote from any other broker, its just a single quote. The fact they display their whole panel is irrelevant. Go to the next random broker and they too receive that sort of volumes of quotes just they only tell you about the best price. Plenty of insurers with a direct proposition that can vary from their broker distributed (or they dont use brokers at all) plus plenty of other brokers with different commercial terms. Basically there is no true comparison site for SME insurance.

Mass market insurance is based on statistics, insurer's dont have an issue with unemployed people but their experience shows that the claims experience (claims frequency x claims amount) is worse and so that is reflected in premiums.

Without wanting to pry on your tenants it may be useful to know what prognosis is and assuming there is a recovery in sight if there is an intention to go back to gainful employment. There is a possibility that they could be considered "medically retired" if they are not seeking future employment but it'd be helped if they were receiving any form of serious ill health benefit and you'd certainly want to double check with the seller of the policy before clicking the buy button that they are happy with the definition. I've certainly known it be considered acceptable in some cases.

One good insurer that does not normally participate in price comparison sites is SAGIC: Salvation Army General Insurance Corp. I suggest you get a quote from them before making any firm decisions.
