Abroad Wedding Advise!

Options
I'm due to get Married in Mexico in June (we booked this in Nov 2018, way before the pandemic!). Our wedding package is booked through a travel agency, so if they cancel, we can just reschedule it without losing money. However, I'm just concerned about the extras that we will have to pay to direct to the hotel (photographer, flowers, DJ, ect.) as these need paying 45 days before our wedding day.  I cannot find any wedding insurance at all, i've been looking for nearly a year and can only find UK insurance, nothing that will cover us abroad. So if the UK gov decide we can't go on holiday and we have already paid the hotel for these extras, i'm worried they may just say we have lost the money and cannot reschedule (I have emailed them to ask this but I would just like to cover us in case this is the case).  Can anyone offer me some advise please? As I don't want to be out of pocket for something that is completely out of my control.

I'm not surprised that you can't find insurance now for this June, given the situation - it's a bad risk.
Have you talked to your agency to see whether you can reschedule now, for next year, when it's much less likely to need to be cancelled?
Paying by credit card might give you some protection if the reason you can't go is because the venue can't provide the service - for instance if there were to be a lockdown in Mexico, but I am not sure it would cover you if the hotel were still willing and able t provide those services and it was you ho were unable to attend.
You may need to chose between paying and risking losing those funds, but having the wedding you want if you do get to go, or choosing not to pay for them and accept that you will have a more pared down wedding if you are able to go forward. (Upi may, of course, find that if you arrive it's still possible to get them sorted at the last minute, although it may cost a bit more than paying in advance)

All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

Other than leaving it until the last possible minute, you don't have any other options I'm afraid.
Fly out a couple of days earlier and sort your own flowers out when you get there?
Ask one of your guests to be the photographer?
Not sure about the DJ... could this be arranged at the last minute?

All you can do is wait it out for now... keep an eye on government announcements as well as what is happening in Mexico, as you might need to stump up for quarantining when you get back.

Paying with credit card will help if Mexico goes into lockdown and the services become unavailable, but if YOU can't make it and they are still available then that will not help.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I'm just stunned at the thought of booking a wedding three years in advance. 😳

Oops, not 2018!! I meant 2019! 😂 Tui don't do holidays that far in advance. Anyway, we booked at the earliest opportunity as had a lot of family who wanted to come and it's not exactly a cheap holiday!
  • I would think it would be advisable not to prebook the extras, and arrange them at short notice if you're sure it will go ahead.

If people are allowed in/out of the UK (to go and return without the £1500 quarantine fee per person), then there's still the complications of entering Mexico - will they only allow vaccinated, negative tests, any quarantine etc. I feel really bad for you, but it's not very promising, especially given that others have to travel too - it might be too risky for them. I can't imagine many people being ready to travel in literally 4 months unless something changes dramatically.
