This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, with a covering of snow - we're supposed to have snow today and tomorrow - it's snowing again at the moment too, air is very cold too.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, swede, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - there's some LO's which will become another meal - maybe tonight's dinner if not then tomorrow's, it depends what sort of day I have at work and how I feel when I get in tonight.
We were lazy yesterday - we had lunch then watched the rugby.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's bitterly cold with snow here, but it was forecast so no surprises there. I've got to go out to the post office, but it's not far, and I'll put my wellies on.Yesterday was ok, just the usual quiet day, I did the little bit of ironing that was in the basket and sorted out some card making materials, that was it really..Hope you and your DH are all right TTC, after your trip to A&E.Your Dgd seems to have had a great time painting DP1!RosyRed , hope you are progressing well.Thinking of Ruby, and Marie, also others who are not well or struggling with life.Take care folks, and stay warm.17

Morning all Brrr its a chilly one here i set the heating to 15 and it came on early this morning as ithe boiler is right under my bedroom it woke me up added to the clattering out the back i couldn't sleep as i was worried someone was trying to get in the gates or the garage they weren't but my imagination managed to go into overdrive . Just having a cuppa then when its light i will walk the dog and start cleaning the house and do the beds .
The weekend was spent taking up the decking as the garden people are supposed to be coming tomorrow but i don't think that's going to happen now I received the quote in July and as he was fully booked i have had to wait which means we can't get the estate agent round till after it has been done as the garden has looked like steptoe's yard anyway one skip later its cleared we had hoped to have some room for stuff from the garage but it looks like we will need another one .
I took a few bits to the other house but there is so much yet to sort through over there and so much to sort through here i am starting to find it a bit overwhelming .
Ruby I am thinking of you and your family
Marie hope you are doing ok
Dinner tonight sausage casserole and i might do a crumble for desert
Hugs and extra strength to all those who need it have a good day stay safe warm and dry xxSlava Ukraini17 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I thought we were supposed to escape the worst of the snow this time but the weathermen lied. Snow fell through the night and is set to fall heavily now until late afternoon. And it feels blummin cold.
I think someone has let Mr Sandman escape 'cos for the past 3 nights I have had better sleeps than usual. The usual loo break in the early hours but straight back off again. I don't expect it to last! So a another day of same old same old and what gets done gets done and what doesn't doesn't! The cleaning of the windows and frames seemed to get abandoned over the weekend but I may resume them today.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, carers and just p****d off. TTCB I hope your DF is ok and no more trips to A & E needed. RUBY it's good to hear the funeral has been sorted out but not something to look forward to. Hoping things are as ok as they can be for MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"17 -
Morning
Thinking of you RedRuby xx
We paid the mortgage off last week. We've stayed in the same house we bought as FTB in 1997 so with only a year to go, the repayments were very low. But I thought I'd feel something – relief, a sense of achievement, elation even? But nothing! I just thought 'well that's that then' and adjusted my budget and track my spends spreadsheets.
I think my brain is searching for things to look forward to/get excited about/something – anything - to do. I've being doing things like moving the table and chairs six inches across because maybe it'll look much better there. I was ridiculously excited to find a new program to watch – Resident Alien – and after watching the first one and liking it, found myself annoyed that I had to wait for the next episode and why can't Sky One work like Netflix and upload a whole series at once?! Also, I now have that Starships song stuck in my head, just as well I like it, lol.
I was up at 5am yesterday. Gave myself a good talking to then opened a couple of windows and lit a scented candle. Drank coffee and ate a bowl of fruit. Emptied the chicken shed and gave it a good scrub. Used my nice shower gel from Christmas, instead of the normal everyday one. I wore a nice shirt instead of my favourite sloppy jumper. My daily walks have being getting shorter and shorter lately, so I made myself stay out for a bit longer. All that effort(!) meant I was knackered by mid-afternoon, but I needed to start somewhere or I'll end up spending every day on the sofa wondering why life is soooo boring, lol.
Windows open a bit and candle lit again. We have the thinnest covering of snow I've ever seen. There's a few flakes fluttering about but I think that'll probably stop soon. I'll go out with Scamp a bit earlier today, when I get back I want to sort some seeds and get my tomatoes going. Not sure about this afternoon yet, but I have plenty of unfinished projects in my craft room so I'll choose one of them and hopefully get it finished.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Bitterly cold here, there has been a little snow overnight but it is just starting to fall again. Temperature is very low, below freezing and I'm waiting for the heating to come on.
Didn't have the best of nights - I kept waking up and eventually got up at 4, knowing that there was not much chance of more sleep. I have been messing about on the net, watching a film on Primus and finishing off a baby cardigan.
I have online learning today, I have to keep up my CPD to maintain my professional registration.
I have 2 magpies sitting in one of the trees so I'm taking that as a positive sign for today. I filled up the bird feeder in case it is icy later and they do tend to come for food early in the morning - just about light enough for them now.
OH has just appeared and is making me a cup of tea and he will pop out for milk in a bit, we are nearly milk less. Oh the horror! He drinks coffee in the day and green tea at night, I think green tea is vile, like drinking from a weed-infested pond. Though I will drink fruit tea sometimes.
I hope everyone's day is tolerable, I can't say good because I know that we shan't all have a good day - and that those of us who are struggling have an easier day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back17 -
Morning
Lovely day here but really cold Seems we will again swerve any bad weather although I confess to being a tad jealous seeing the snow in kent on the news.
Delivery arrived all present and correct so I'll survive another weekMade a big pot of pea and bacon soup yesterday which I had for dinner with a baguette it resulted in 4 pots for the freezer too
Today I fancy a pizza so nice and easy
Washing in and need to tackle some hoovering today... that and some volunteer calls and another exciting day will be done
Take care all and hope Rosy is feeling a little stronger

Morning Everyone
Tru - we were similar to you having purchased our first house in 1997 and in 2016 paid the mortgage off which was a bit of an anticlimax and we immediately went and found our dream house which will take another 15 years to pay off (go figure!!)
Woke up to a light covering of snow and its snowing heavily now so I guess as its a novelty here in East Yorkshire it will be heaving with kids sledging at lunch time!
Made roast chicken and apple n raspberry crumble last night with HM stuffing and bread sauce and there is plenty left for sandwiches today - goody. Other than that it is back to work. Dog may have a rest today as we did a couple of big walks at the weekend in the mud (she is snoozing at the side of me as I type)
Has anyone found the news is even more annoying/depressing at the moment? I used to enjoy BBC news but now I cannot stand the presenters and its a constant 15 minute loop of gloom and doom. Switching off and putting a K drama on instead whilst I work!!Second coffee/rooibos of the day beckons!

Morning All
Not much snow overnight but it's coming down now, and the sun is trying to come out! DS2 is very excited as there's snow in The Netherlands, doesn't happen often.
I know how you feel tru, I've given myself a shake this morning and done some yoga, will go for a walk later as I didn't go out yesterday apart from to empty the ash pan from the fire and that was only to the bin! I'm going to sort through my summer stuff for some older t shirts, the ones I wear to bed are wearing a bit thin and some have holes in but they are so comfy. Hoping to find some in the summer box that looked OK when I put them away but are probably past their best.
Hope your BF is recovering TTCB.
Glad you have the funeral organised Ruby, please remember to look after yourself too.
Hoping you're feeling better Rosy.
Thinking of you Marie.
Enjoy your day if you can. Take care. XX16 -
Morning everyone
Bright and sunny here but meant to feel like minus 7 - tiniest bit snow on the ground - like icing sugar! I need to vacuum this morning and have a general tidy and I have a huge bag of too big clothes to sort that were given to DD for little one. They need washed and ironed - the machine is busy with my bedding at the minute. It should be dry by tonight as I have the heating on all day just now. Then a lazy afternoon with my Sunday Times as I never got it opened yesterday. Little one went home about 2.30 and I went down to mam and dads for a little while, then I met a lady I hadn't seen for ages on my way home and stood and chatted for half an hour till it started to snow on us. She was reception teacher to both my DDs and likes to hear how they're getting on. Then a chat with eldest DD in Sweden and it was time to make my tea.
I'd better move or I'll get nothing done. hope everyone has a pleasant day17 -
Morning folks. There's a light scattering of crunchy snow on the ground, no real stuff yet. If Camelot has it perhaps it'll drift over here soon. EDIT - even as I wrote that the snow has started to fall.I took positive action yesterday and rescheduled my contact lens check up until early March. No point risking things when the jag is so close. No real plans for the day, any hopes of a walk may well have just been been put to bed though the snow doesn't look bad, so far. In fact that flurry has stopped now, was hardly worth mentioning.Take care everyone. Happy Monday to all.16
