Can anyone recommend a good, quality Vaillant service engineer?

You can go to Vaillant themselves. I have found them excellent. Although there would certainly be cheaper options if the fault is simple, it was an independent gas repairer suggested I did this when I had a more major problem.

Unless it has changed they offer two options. A one off fixed price repair (with one or two exclusions) or an initial repair, regardless of fault, including a six month service contract / warranty for about £53 a month. If you opt to continue beyond the six months the price drops.

I used Vailliant themselves at first, but they are dearer and the guy was very young and didn't seem that clued. The next day the boiler didn't start as he left the pressure too low.

Any decent local company should have staff experienced in servicing Vaillant boilers. It would be easy enough to do a google search for any in your area.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

As above, I'd concentrate on finding a decent local gas engineer, rather than limiting it to Vaillant specific ones. Most will have experience of all common makes of boiler.

Many thanks for all your comments. I do agree that any decent engineer worth their salt
will know exactly what needs to be done at each service and aware of particular items per model, but it is finding these experienced individuals, hence asking on here.

The previous guy I used, Mick Game, was amazing, but alas he is no longer in the area and moved on
