Sigh .....

  • I had one yesterday from "Royal Mail", with a link saying I needed to pay £2.99 for unpaid delivery. It was very clever, would have fooled a lot of people.

The guy in the delivery office is baffled why nobody ever collects their stuff.

I thought that it was very kind today of PayPal to go to the trouble of sending me an email telling me that my account is suspended and, what is more, to include a link to a page where I can log in and correct the problem.

And I was very lucky to be contacted by HMRC & informed that I was due a tax refund of £777.55.
All I had to do was click on the link supplied.

Except that everyone knows £2.99 is too cheap.  Royal Mail have to add £9.99 "handling", £12.99 "CEO's bonus", etc...

Well this will probably be my last post for a while as my NI number has been used fraudulently and the National Crime Agency are coming to seize all my assets and arrest me......according to the helpful phone call this afternoon.   I just hope it's after D&G have the extended the warranty that's just expired on my 13 year old washing machine...  😅

Seem to be inundated this weekend though. HMRC, Halifax, Lloyds and Amazon.

    My Junk Inbox received this:

My memory seems to fail me as I too had forgotten to renew my TV licence, netflix subscription and Amazon Prime. In fact I'm so forgetful that I seem to have no recollection of a netflix account, so I can only extend my gratitude to all who've contacted me with these helpful reminders, complete with helpful links in their emails to save me having to search for the right webpages.

Would also like to say a big thank you to HMRC. I know they sometimes get a lot of stick but, if it weren't for their call just this morning I'd've been completely in the dark regarding the fact that my personal details have been used fraudulently. Luckily, the person on the phone helped me through the process of restoring my tax account by taking all my information during the call which ended with his reassurance that all was now ok and that no action would be taken against me for fraud.

I should add that I was particulary impressed with how thorough he was to make sure that I passed security: he asked for my full name, address, phone, NI number, DOB, passport number and driving licence number - now that was a foolproof identity check!
