Proton do not use "Toyota tech". They were badly-built superannuated Mitsubishis. They left the UK market 7 years ago, so parts supply may not be easy.
It's even longer since Daihatsu left the UK market. They're now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota, so parts may be available through the Toyota chain.
The secret to buying a cheap shed, though, is to ignore what people say you should buy - especially if they say "because it's reliable". You'll get far less for the same money - or pay more for the same thing. Buy the undesirable, the unfashionable. Buy what other people don't want. And ALWAYS buy on condition...0 -
I really did mean go pop after a mile; even a £1k shed shouldn't expire that quickly. Yes it might be hard to get your money back but even a slim chance is better than no chance.AdrianC said:
Not a hope.shinytop said:in the £1k range you might be better buying from a trader as you have some chance of comeback if it goes pop a mile down the road.
Remember, the Consumer Rights Act caveats the supplier's responsibility with reasonable expectations for used goods around the age, relative price, and apparent condition.
Reasonable expectations for a sub-grand shed are minimal.
Even then, you face the issue of actually getting anywhere... You're going to have to get the car dragged back to their premises, leave it there, and issue a small claim to take them to court. You might win. Then you've got to get them to pay...0 -
I have a 2007 Ford Fiesta 1.4, its a good reliable car, good size in the back (managed to ge a chest freezer in it last week on its side to take it to the tip with the tailgate tied down!).Parts are cheap, just had two tyres for less that £100 in a good brand, pair of shocks around £30, radiator (due to a fox) £50.All easy to work on and cheap to repair.Good solid car and you should easily get a nice one for less than a grand.0
