Washing Machine playing up. Possible to get insurance (warranty long run out) for repairs?

Hi all,
My Hoover Dynamic Next washing machine is powering off mid wash, then powers up again later on and fills up with water starting the cycle over. It's past it's warranty and I never got the AO aftercare program. Is there some sort of insurance I can open that will cover the repair? As well as future repairs? Any recommendations? Thanks

Unless you commit fraud then no insurance will cover the existing problem.

    That is not quite true.

Some maintenance contracts / insurance will take an appliance on, at a higher premium obviously, that includes an initial repair. Vaillant boiler cover, underwritten by D&G, is one example. You sign up to a six month contract, at about £53 per month, and that includes repairing an initial fault then provides cover for the remainder of the six months. After that you can extend at a lower price or cancel as you choose.

There are certain limits but the initial repair cost can certainly exceed the total cost of the six months premiums by quite a way. Basically they take the rough with the smooth and hope you will extend. No idea if similar is available for washing machines.

That's what I thought, but was proven wrong. It's not the case for some insurances.

Yes, how old is it? we had a fridge freezer from AO.com and we had LG out 3 times to fix it but they said the latest time that as latest callout was 90 days ago it was deemed to be a new fault despite same issue and wanted 150 call out charge plus work
used a template off Which.com to issue a claim against the consumer rights act of 2015, told them i would be doing so and they offered £100 after an hour on the phone, around then I knew I had them as this seemed like go away/damage limitation money

They then said to me I would need an engineers report so I got a local independent guy to come round and for £45, the max they would reimburse, he wrote me a report stating that it was beyond repair and had an inherent fault from manufacture. AO.com then refunded me the purchase price, less wear and tear - we originally paid something like £1099 for it, we got £780 back  after 2 years but we had used a £100 discount code so didn't do too badly out of it. we used a 30% off code on very and a lucrative Samsung cashback offer and ended up paying £200 of our own money towards a £1500 fridge which has a 5 year part and labour warranty instead of LG 2 year

Overall I was disappointed in both LG and AO.com given the issues we had with it during ownership, so I was happy to take them to the cleaners over it.

It isnt the same as a warranty but it is worth looking into:

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I bought it in July, 2018. I probably should have got the aftercare program for £6 a month as getting a one off repairman to come in could end up costing more than the machine is worth after the initial callout charge. I only paid £279.00 for it. I did read about a cover plan that covers repairs well over the warranty time. I think it could have even been hoovers own extended warranty. Not sure how valid it is as they were prompting me to sign up when my warrenty was about to run out. I wonder if it's worth just getting a new machine as it was pretty cheap.

July 2018. Maybe the "fit for purpose" rule is on your side? In any case, I can't see how buying insurance can be cheaper tgan paying for a repair, in my mind it's an upside down way of looking at life's problems. As others say bordering on fraudulent.

We have a D&G policy on our range cooker. Saved us a fortune fortunately, although might be losing the savings now as it's been fine for a year. When the cooker broke initially, we rang them up and they offered to fix it for free if we took a one year policy out at about £12 a month.

The low end Miele machines are £600 and rather reliable. We had our first one for 15 years. We were doing around two loads a day.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Low end Miele is indeed £ 600 and once you count in few years of £ 6 per mont ( let alone 12 ) it will work out cheaper in the long run, quality and quietness of Miele wash will also be a pleasant surprise compared to Hoover one.  Don't take it the way that Miele never break - they do ( unlikely in first 5 - 8 years but it does happen sometimes ) - but in much much smaller numbers and once repaired they should last good few years again.  If your budget does not allow initial outlay of £ 600 , rather than buying one for £ 280 and taking out a cover plan, you might as well pay £ 200 and save  £ 6  every month  yourself to cover new machine in 3 - 4 years those cheap machines last on average ( £ 200 ,£ 280  or £360  have exactly the same materials and quality, engineering and most parts ( mostly made of plastic, sealed drums, cheap bearings and concrete weights ), they are made to a price point and for additional £ 80 you get mostly " latest and greatest " programmes, options and " special features " - read full on disco lights and few more programs that will rarely , if ever be used in the real life situations.
