Shopping with Amazon

Options
I ordered an Xbox one controller at a good price from Amazon at New Year. It was not in stock, but the order was accepted pending dispatch. Several weeks later, I checked amazon. My item was not dispatched yet, but they had exactly the same for sale for immediate delivery at twice the price. Today, Amazon cancelled my order as they “were unable to source the item”
Do I have any rights as a consumer to demand Amazon supply the order at the original price?

many thanks, Richard

Amazon reserve the right not to fulfil any orders at all.
Anyway you've probably ordered a specific "version" of the controller, or a slightly different revision or maybe its in black when you requested dark grey, or some other variation,  There are always copious variations/versions of things on Amazon, different revisions, different colours, different whatever it is, and the other item you've seen is probably not close enough to what you pre-ordered in January.

The situation is like when you buy a DVD of a film that's just had its 30th anniversary release you see a listing of a few other releases of the film on the same Amazon page.  If you buy the 2002 release of <insert film of choice here> and it was 90% cheaper than the 30th anniversary release of <insert film of choice here>, you wouldn't expect to automatically sent the 30th anniversary because the 2002 one is unavailable.  You'd get a notification saying the film cannot be supplied.

It did the same with me with a bottle of eau de parfum. It happens.

It does work in your favour sometimes though. I bought a bike helmet that they were out of stock of but taking orders for at £49 when everyone else was selling it £99 and four weeks later it turned up.

Sometimes it’s the luck of the draw on bargains.
  • Like most online retailers, Amazon's T&C's state that a contract is only formed when goods are actually dispatched so up until that time, they do have the right to cancel any orders.

The Order Confirmation E-mail is acknowledgement that we have received your order, and does not confirm acceptance of your offer to buy the product(s) ordered. We only accept your offer, and conclude the contract of sale for a product ordered by you, when we dispatch the product to you and send e-mail confirmation to you that we've dispatched the product to you (the "Dispatch Confirmation E-mail").
