Hi,
DL Expires 2022
Passport Expires 2023

What is the cheapest way to renew both or in which order as I can renew the DL online, but they pull the Passport Photo which is so out of date it’s untrue, will I be best to renew the passport photo, but then it seems extortionate to do both at the same time!

I assume it's just your photocard expiring, not hitting 70?

If you wanted, you could just "forget" to renew the photocard, until after you've got your new passport in your paw.

Don't forget you need at least 6mo remaining validity on your passport even to go to France now - so view it as expiring 6mo before the actual date. What months do each expire?

As for "extortionate" - a photocard renewal is £14 online... or for £17 you can apply by post and use a new photo.

You can now renew a passport with a selfie, so long as it meets their strict requirements.  It's cheaper to do it online than using a paper form.
They will accept a transfer of your passport photo to a driving licence so long as the passport is in date.  I did it in January, using a passport that runs out this month.  So the photo on my new licence is 10 years old, and will be 20 years old by the time it runs out.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

But not as far as getting a new DL is concerned.

If you get the pic from Max Spielmann for about £10 you get a digital code to add to your passport application online makes it even easier.

Supermarkets, Tesco/Morrisons/Sainsbury, have photo booths in which the charge for D/licence/Pasport photos is £6
These are embedded with a unique number, so you don't send the photo to the agencies, you just quote the number, but they will charge a bit extra if you send an actual photo without the embedded number.

The passport costs quite a bit, but the D/licence renewal is free .

I took my own passport photo recently using my smartphone so "for free" would be my answer.  Read the guidelines carefully as it can't be a selfie.  So I reversed the phone on myself and took enough photos to pick one that met the criteria.  When I renewed my DL I had the option of using my current passport photo which I took.

My driving licence wasn't free.  I paid £14 for it.
