This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, cold here but doesn't seem to be raining!I was just looking back at yesterday's posts to catch up, and your crocheted ponchos are lovely Florence, I meant to comment on the first one the other day, beautiful colours. My Mam and sister could crochet, knit and sew, but I can only sew and make cards, I once tried to crochet but ended up with a tight little circle.Hope your mouth feels better soon DP1, there's nothing worse than dental pain.Got to grips with the back bedroom yesterday, well DH did, it's mainly his stuff. I stsrted off with cleaning the little toy storage units and he did the rest. It's not that I wouldn't clean DH's shelves, it's just that he has them carefully arranged so it was better that he did it.The rain was relentless yesterday, but I went to Morries for a few things. We were going to go out for a walk, but bottled out, looking at the rain. I quite enjoyed my little trip to the supermarket though.I 've got my vaccination this afternoon, don't suppose I'll be there long, it's all run very efficiently I've heard.Hope your cake making goes well Gers.I like K*nwood mixers etc, having said that I've got an own brand hand mixer at the moment that I bought at Sains a few years ago, my kenny had died after years of service. I've got a K*nwood food processor though, and it's a great help now that my hands are arthritic.Hope everyone has a good day if possible.Thinking of everyone who is poorly or has life problems - take care folks12

Good morning everyone
It's a very chilly morning here today, the grass was frosty when I opened the back door for the dogs. I doubt we will have any snow but it is certainly cold enough.
I had the princely total of 2 hours sleep last night as every time I lay down on my side I had a raging toothache but as soon as I sat up it sort of popped and the pain went so by 3am I gave it up as a bad job and came downstairs to sleep sitting upright on the settee. I can't carry on with this lack of sleep as I am going slightly mad with it all.
I have eaten like an absolute pig this week and I have still lost weight which is worrying as I think my diabetes is behind it. I am going to do better and have thrown away my sweeties and chocolates and I am also going to knock my vimto habit on the head as I am getting through around 3 litres of cordial every week and even though it is the no added sugar version it cannot be good for me in those quantities.
I am in charge of the kitchen today so I am going to make a low carb version of kedgeree with cauliflower rice and then I am going to make a keema pie for dinner. Unfortunately I have nearly spent all of our money this month as I was a bit manic so we are short of veggies and fruit but we have lots in the freezer I think. Anyway, my meals are going to be a bit 'interesting' this week.
Right that is all my waffling for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx12 -
Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. I had my once in a blue moon half decent sleep last night, I wish every night was like that. We have rain this morning and it's set to stay with us all day, alternating with sleet and light snow. That seems to be the story for the coming week.
Exciting day ahead - a big Tesco delivery. Most of it comprises a re-stock of store cupboard stuff as I have been "shopping" from there quite a bit since the current lockdown. I go in a panic when stocks start diminishing! Freezer stocks are slowly going down too so it won't be long before I go into a panic about that and do a re-stock despite my good intentions!
My BF stopped by as promised after the dog groomer appointment, She passed over a bag of books and I was beyond excited to find the latest Victoria Hislop amongst them. We are lucky in that we both enjoy the same sort of book and authors so books are passed back and forth regularly. I lost my reading mojo for a while but it seems to have found me again. It was so good to see her and we had a lovely chat up and down the front steps. We keep in touch regularly but a face to face natter is so much nicer and it perked me up for the day.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and p****ed off. Thinking of RUBY and MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet. The Kenwood is a beast of a machine but I'm looking forward to trying it out.The cake I made yesterday is lovely. I thought that it hasn't worked because of lack of beating power but it's fudgey. The topping is a mixture of peanut butter, butter, icing sugar and fresh cream. The recipe calls for this to go all the way round the outside but I'm not doing that as I find it difficult to handle or eat without getting messy. 😀
More rain here, we've been spared the horrendous snow so far. I'm off to the shops soon, the Saturday papers have to be bought. There's not much to buy as I've got a delivery coming later on with heavy stuff - caster sugar, flour etc.Whilst I've been watching cookery videos recently I was intrigued by what some call a 'Dutch whisk' whilst others use the term 'Danish whisk'. One person said it was a 'bread whisk'. My internet searches found that it's meant to make it really easy to manually beat doughs or even cream butter. For £10.00 for two it's worth a punt. No idea why two but I didn't want a wooden handled one so two stainless steel ones it is. Does anyone have experience of these odd whisks?
A little bit of joy for me last night was the brief, and odd, appearance of Ben Miller in Death in Paradise. Very poignant.
Ruby - I hope you can find some peace today. 🤗
Dp1 - the antibiotics should be easing the pain by now, at least I hope so.Ooh, Herman's Hermits are being played on the radio - No milk today. Why do I remember every word? 😱My thoughts are with everyone who is hanging on by their fingertips. Happy Saturday to all.13 -
Morning everyone
Scarlett - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, wet underfoot with laying water and raining steadily - this is the forecast for the day - but overnight changing to sleet and snow, snow forecast for tomorrow and into Monday.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and a cranberry breakfast bar. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips, beans and coleslaw. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight is going to be a SM Indian takeaway.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got done what I wanted, so today and tomorrow will be easy days' before going back to work on Monday and whatever they want to throw at us.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Still wet out but not as bad this morning. I had to go into the cellar yesterday to get a bag of kindling and had to go back for my wellies, it's ankle deep in water. The water seeps up through the floor but will drain eventually, that's why I have everything on pallets, saves the plant pots going for a swim!
Hope your mouth pain has subsided dp1.
Gers - I had to look up a dutch whisk, looks like a handy tool. The Youtube video I happened upon was of an american monk who makes bread - quite interesting.
I'm with you in the no sleep club dumpling, I woke up at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep although I dozed a little.
Such a shame about the bereavement payment Ruby but how lovely you have a village fund to help.
I got a refund for the cycling shoes, the chap in the shop didn't even look at them. I'll keep the money for whenever DS2 can come over and he can choose some different ones.
I was bored yesterday so made foccacia bread, quite easy and very tasty but there's a lot of olive oil in there! There's enough to last forever so may put some in the freezer.
Living room throws and cushion covers are in the WM and the downstairs bathroom has been cleaned. The oven is on my list of jobs today (I must be bored!).
Hope you can have a happy Saturday, take care. XX13 -
Morning all. Dry and there's almost a spot of sun. The chicken from the freezer turned into a stew yesterday, it was all so healthy [skinless chicken breasts] until I added dumplings with rosemary and thyme. I did try parsley ones after I started making those but they taste so bland in comparison. Same again tonight. Gers, that's an intriguing looking whisk. I often envy Nigellas little spring whisk, but I haven't succumbed to buying something just for eggs , well, not yet anyway. If the sun and moon and stars looking whisk is as good as the jar scraper things it's winner.I finished my jigsaw yesterday [goodbye liquorice allsorts!] so Im now free to start crocheting something and probably do another jigsaw [hello terry pratchett Mort!] . I bought some wool online described as chunky, but what a disappointment when it turned up , it's just like normal dk wool. So I have that to turn into something. I ordered more properly chunky wool last night, a bargain on the bay, so that's ready for the poncho.Ruby, I'm sorry they were no help but what you have organised so far sounds lovely. My father never told us what he wanted even when he knew he wasn't getting better so we had to decide really that we would do the best we could and that would be enough with regards to music etc. I'm sure your brother would have appreciated what you're doing if that's not a stupid thing to say...TA, enjoy your shop and dumpling, all your k's. Happy vaccine day Scarlet! Rosy, hope you're nearly mended. anyone else with aches and pains, hope your painkillers are up to the job. Stay safe y'all, it's southern accent Saturday! Try it, I dare you....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning all.
Foggy and cold here today. I don't have any huge plans. A modicum of housedrudgery, a walk to the Village Shop for the paper and a day exercising my brain with the puzzles in the paper.
No idea what I'll be eating. It depends what I feel like when I'm hungry. Fortunately the fridge and freezer are well stocked.
TA, like you I get slightly panicky when the stocks are getting used up.
Hope you all have as good a weekend as possible.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all, I've been up since 5 but have achieved little apart from a quick sweep and hardboiling an egg for my lunch. I don't really plan to achieve more today, I have run out of oomph. And it is a very grey day.
Thinking especially of Ruby and hope Marie is doing well. Lots of people with toothache, hope that subsides.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back10 -
Morning all,Taff, sadly I'm still feeling the effects of the virus, weak, no energy etc but there are slight signs that I'm getting a bit of appetite back, just had some toast and honey and fruit juice. Not seen Ds2 for a few days, he popped in yesterday with DGS after school pick up & said 'Bl**dy he11 Ma, you're wasting away!
- hardly, but I weighed myself after and the loss is nearly up to half a stone but I don't recommend the Covid diet at all!!. DGS as usual was a breath of joy.Didnt get to see DGD as he was on his way to get her after. I've missed them so much
The rain is continuing day after day in depressing fashion. My niece is meant to be getting married in Greece in June, all the family going,& we were renting a villa for DH, myself,DSons and DGC. The owners emailed to cancel it earlier in the week. All their flights have been cancelled so they can't get there to prepare the villa for us. They would have carried the booking forward to next year but being a wedding we cant do that, so we will get a refund. Our flights havent been cancelled yet. She was lovely, and offered advice for booking another property. However it's looking like my niece is going to postpone until 2022.Thinking of Marie and Ruby and family, take care everyone x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
