Faulty Tumble Dryer

Hi,
In December, I purchased a tumble dryer from a well-known high street retailer. It seems to have a fault because it keeps stopping every 10-15 minutes no matter what setting I put it on. Had a look online and some articles say it could be linked to a build-up of limescale on the moisture sensor. The tumble dryer's been like this since the first week we've had it. Had it for 2 months now so it's over the 30-day limit, but I gave birth in Oct so haven't had the headspace to deal with it until now.
I called the retailer we bought it from today who explained that I need to call the manufacturer to arrange a repair and then if it still doesn't work then they (the retailer) will consider an exchange.
I always thought that the shop you buy it from that needs to deal with a faulty product, or are they in the right to pass me onto the manufacturer? Any advice appreciated, thank you.

You have two options. Consumer Rights - with the retailer. As it is within 6 months from purchase then the fault is deemed inherent. Warranty - under the terms of said warranty.
I would be asking for the retailer to remedy.
Sometimes (and particularly in these times) it is quicker for the manufacturer to act.

Thanks. The retailer is John Lewis and they told me that all of their large electrical appliances come under a 2-year guarantee. The person at their call centre told me that I have to call the manufacturer to arrange for a repair and then afterwards, if there is still a fault, then they (JL) may exchange the tumble dryer. I was under the impression that they should provide their own repairmen, but perhaps I am wrong.

A lot of retailer's fob you offer to the manufacturer, the path of least resistance is to call the manufacturer.Sleepless_in_London said:Thanks. Worth a note that if you go down a consumer rights avenue with JL who offer a remedy which does not resolve the issue you would then be entitled to reject the goods for a refund.
If you fancy a bit of a battle you can go back to JL and advise you are seeking a remedy under the Consumer Rights Act, it is their responsibility to act and if they wish to to use the manufacturer it is up to them to arrange it.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

They don't have any. Whether you go direct to the manufacturer or via JL. it'll still be the manufacturer, or, more likely their UK service agents, who deal with any warranty claims.Sleepless_in_London said:Thanks.
