Experian/defaults/debt cleared

I have cleared all my debt my experian credit score is 857, i still have 2 defaults showing that come off in May. At the moment if i do a soft search i am unable to get credit. Is it right that once these 2 defaults come off and i have no credit in last 6 years and a fully up to date mortgage i will be able to obtain credit? The search must be clever enough to show at the moment my defaults.

Any particular reason why you want credit again ?

Your score is largely irrelevant, it’s your history that counts, so those old defaults will likely be the cause of your inability to obtain credit.

  • It may be worth using eligibility checkers with capital one and aqua first to see if you’re eilligible without effecting your credit file. It may be worth taking some time to reflect on why you had defaults etc before jumping straight back into credit cards and debt.

I was just doing a check that doesn't have a impact on credit score to see what it did. My priority will be changing my mortgage. Ive been in debt for many a year and finally seeing light and finally growing up!

I’ve been there so can relate have one more year left on my defaults and looking forward to moving on from them. It’s nice being debt free and i dont have an interest in credit anymore my enjoyment comes from my savings account, that’s like a credit card or overdraft that doesn’t need to pay back, it’s a very stress free way to live.
