Upgrading Barclaycard in future.

Options
Recently been accepted for the Barclaycard Forward credit card. I will keep this in good order with everyday expenses and paying off end of month in full, make a few big purchases then pay off within a couple of months, etc. How long do I wait to upgrade to their Barclaycard Rewards credit card? When applying for the Forward card I got accepted for the £1200 credit limit straight away, I head people here being offered between £250 and £800. Does this mean I would be more credit worthy?

There’s no fixed time before you can upgrade/change your card. You have to demonstrate that you are a reliable customer first. I had my forward for 12 months, during which time I used it and paid in full by direct debit. After 12 months my interest rate was reduced - which didn’t matter to me as I didn’t pay  it anyway, and then I asked if I could move to the cash back card and they said yes.

So yes you can do it - but you have to be patient and build a good history.

Refuse to upgrade mine. Has the card nearly 16 months now, always paid back the balance in full from the statement.

Reduced the interest rate twice in the first year for me. But will not change my card.

Seems I’m one of the only ones on the forum not to have successfully upgraded the card.

But it succeeded in building up a good credit history so not the end of the world.

I just found it odd I got the interest reduction twice in quick succession but they won’t allow the card change.

I didn't have a Forward card but had a regular Barclaycard for over 20 years and always in good standing. Told them I no longer had any use for it and would like to move to a Barclaycard Reward card. They told me it wasn't possible and that I had to cancel my current Barclaycard and reapply in 6 months. Quite the faff...

They upgraded my card to the rewards 2019 after I had the Initial/Forward for 12 months.

They can change your card to the rewards one as I did it earlier last year with an old platinum one, I sent them a message via internet banking and they said I could change to either the Freedom Rewards one where you collect points and can convert them to vouchers to use online or instore (this card is no longer available to new customers).  Or I could change to the cashback card and get 0.25% cashback on everyday spending and no fees on spending abroad and 0.00%fee on cash withdrawals, which I decide was the better option.

They did say I would have to call them to change my card as someone has to read new T&C's and confirm I understood I was changing card, which I did.  It changed to the reward account after my statement was produced which for me was a week after I called to change it and a new card arrived 3 days after that.  For me it was no faff at all really.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
