Convincing Partner on More Ergonomic Sofa?

Hi all

We have a lovely grey sofa but it's not the most practical. It's soft and you sink into it and it has little back support. After sitting on it for a hour watching TV you can really feel it. I tried at the time of purchase to make an argument for a supportive recliner but it was to no avail.

Has anyone had the problem of finding a suitably comfortable and supportive sofa that goes well with your living space?

Any advice appreciated.

Absolutely - and what one person finds comfortable may not suit another.  Individual chairs are the answer in my family.

    Ideal, but not necessarily space-saving.

I have this problem, and my discussions with my partner fall of deaf ears because they don't find the sofa uncomfortable at all. I can't sit on it for more than 30 minutes without it causing me pain. Fortunately, we have a chair that I can sit it that is comfortable for me, but I feel a bit uncomfortable monopolising the chair, but it really is the only place I can sit for any length of time.

Just tell them it's no good for you and buy a separate chair that is.

Alternatively, see what's on the market as an aftermarket back support that you can put on your side

I never sat next to my OH for about 3 years. One sofa was suitable for me, but not him, the other was suitable for him, but not me.

Now we both sit on one sofa, with his and hers footstools, and have a spare matching chair in case we ever have visitors. While we wanted recliners, I couldn't stand or walk after trying different ones, therefore we prioritise my health.

Just buy some scatter cushions to use for back support. That may not look as chic and minimalist as your partner wants, but it’s practical.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
