Probably a generational thing but we like a recorder. Mind you some stuff stays on there forever and annoyingly gets removed when the recorder runs out of space;)mobileron said:do u need to record these days when you have catchup

Got to agree with that coward!! i cant remember what i watched last night.RumRat said:
You'd think wouldn't you?.....I've long wanted to ditch the PVR, however, Wife points out that it's fine if you remember what you wanted to watch. Recording just saves you trawling through the various catch-up services to find what you want.mobileron said:do u need to record these days when you have catchup and ensure you get from Richersounds for the free 6 year warranty.
Look at the Hisense brand great value for money.
Personally, I find very little worth recording on linear TV these days. This leaves a happy wife totally in control of the PVR.

Yes, because apart from I .player and ch5, there are no subtitles and you can ff thru the ads, you can't if you using a smart tv catch up.grumpycrab said:

Thanks all. Sounds like what I was looking for doesn't exist yet!
I've sorted my Manhattan issue and sis is ordering a TV for her flat from Richer Sounds - thanks for the tip.
Turns out she's got Apple TV subscription free for a year with a recent laptop purchase so we'll try that, altho no idea what's on it. Talktalk is coming up as best value broadband so will prob get the TV box as well as is only couple quid more.

I can't even pause, fast forward or rewind when using the BBC iPlayer. Unless it's a feature that I haven't found yet?

I have the exact tv you are looking for in my house its a couple of years old now its the Samsung F8000
With this you get built in Freesat and I have attached a 2TB hard drive onto it which has been parttioned into 2.
1TB for recording of the freesat and 1TB for my own mp4 movies I have downloaded and its all powered from the TV's usb socket.
We ditched sky over a year ago and it was the best thing we did you simply need to connect the 2 sky wires into straight into the tv and you set the recordings from the guide even lets you do series link.
For all your catchup we have bought the new Chromecast with google TV, this gives you all the catchup plus you can also sideload your own apps and you can also cast from the laptop wirelessly.1 -
That's interesting, thank you. I didn't realise you can get catch up on Chromecast? I can't keep up with all this technology.atlantis187 said:I have the exact tv you are looking for in my house its a couple of years old now its the Samsung F8000

She's not got around to ordering the telly yet... back to the drawing board..
Are you able to connect any Apple devices to the TV/Chromecast?
My sister has iphone, ipad & macbook, want to make sure these will all connect easily.0 -
I have an iphone and ipad but dont generally cast these as most of the apps are already on the chromecast you can airplay via third party app app though like you can on an apple tv device through an app called aircastbargain_bagger said:

Sorry not to sure about a mac as I use windows, but im sure if you can get google chrome browser on the mac then this should be possible as if definately works on windows chrome with crystal clear picture0 -
Thanks. The Chromecast we have must be out of date cos it doesn't seem to have any apps on it, it just lets us cast limited stuff from our phones/ipad, like photos and facebook, not sure what else but it definitely doesn't let us cast Zoom.atlantis187 said:

Do you ever cast Zoom to your TV from an apple device and if so, how?0
