South African passport

I have a South African friend who has been waiting 18 months for her new passport. When she contacts the embassy is "will look into it" but never hears any more. Does anyone know how to get them to issue it??

I've no idea, but maybe looking for some expat or SA based forums might be more likely to find people who can help. Fortunately, for the moment your friend is not likely to be needing a passport.

They are chasing the right people are they? A passport for their own citizen is most commonly dealt with by the consulate rather than the embassy, though in some cases they two work hand in hand.
For us, not south african, the consulate has basically been closed since April 2020 and no passports are being issued. If it was urgent we'd have a route via family back home but different countries have different rules etc.0 -

If you have already been waiting for over six months or so for your passport, you can request its status from Home Affairs call centre at hacc@dha.gov.za. Please make sure you provide your ID number with the enquiry.
