O/S Daily Friday 5 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst n here. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark, damp underfoot - rain forecast for later.
Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, carrots, broc, green beans and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure but something quick and easy.
This morning I'll be heading to the SM to do the food shop - I may do some cooking/baking later - depends how I get on with other jobs.
Yesterday I did get some jobs done again, so today will be a chilled day as I've got done some jobs from the list that I wanted to get done. Back to work on Monday - we should know the next stage of what is going to happen this next week.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.Wet as usual here - don't know if it's actually raining, but it's certainly wet.Cleaning in bedrooms continued yesterday, another wardrobe emptied and cleaned, smaller this time, the amount of fluff and dust was shame making. Anyway it's done.Today I'll get into the back bedroom where Dh has all his electronic gear set up - he keeps it tdy and organised so just needs the shelves and skirtings cleaning. He can help since it's mainly his stuff. We've got the grandchildrens' toys in there as well, last year we bought some new storage at I*ea to replace the ancient old unit where the toys were kept. That can probably stand a tidy.I would like to go out as well if possible, even if we just walk round the town, it's a break, and I could do with some bread, could pop into Morries or one of the bakers. So that's today - hope you are feeling better samhartwell, and thinking of Ruby , Marie, and others who aren't well or struggling with life.Take care folks15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Wot no rain or snow forecast for today! I don't believe it! Instead we currently have fog, to be replaced by thick cloud for the rest of the day.
So another day of boringness ahead. A trundle around with duster and vac for the half hearted Friday Tidy. Mid morning BF is dropping off a bag of books for me en route to the dog groomers so we may manage a quick chat up and down the front steps. Apart from going to the bins I have been out twice so far this current lockdown - first time to the vets and then for my vaccination. I feel as though I am turning into a recluse. DD dropped my meds off yesterday after work and she gave me a brief update of what's happening in the world beyond my front door. Staff at the centre where she works have been getting Covid tested every Monday for a good few months now but yesterday they were told this is to be increased to three times a week! They have been issued with home testing kits for the days they are not working.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. RUBY and MARIE you are in my thoughts. Take care one and all x

Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I ended up in bed early last night, I had no reason to feel as tired as I did but a good sleep was a nice change.
Week 943 of lockdown has been strange and I've felt a bit jittery but have tried to find something positive in each day. Some days it is a very small thing though.
I am going to feed the birds now that it is getting light and watch to see who comes - this week we have had a visit from a rather sleek fox as well as more or less the entire squirrel population of the West Midlands.
Nothing much of interest happening here so I will wish everyone a good day, thinking of Ruby and Marie.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning folks.Rain here, looks as if the nasty snow storm may just miss out the lower west coast, otherwise the forecast for the ear and north looks awful. The postponed visit from the cleaner is taking place this morning. Her friend has had a negative test result, thank goodness. I've also got a three-way phone call with my SIL and old friend in Australia, think they're on a 'cheer-up-Gers' mission. 🤗
Later on I'm planning to attempt another cake, if it works it'll be perfect for the crossword buddies. I'm aiming for a Nigella chocolate peanut butter cake, though I feel I may well end up making a Victoria sponge! Shame I don't have my new bowl. Now it's time to get ready for my day. My thoughts are with all those struggling and wish everyone a happy Friday.11 -
Morning all chilly but dry here dog will be walked and we then await the arrival of a skip as the garden people are making a start on Tuesday so i will be in the garden all weekend no matter what the weather . I am off to the other house this morning as i need to take some bits for DS and then home again hopefully i will get the old laminate flooring in the skip today .
AOD I was really out of sorts earlier this week i couldn't stop crying and really didn't want to be bothered with anything but like you say we just need to look for the one small positive thing and hopefully things will get better for us all
Right better finish my cuppa then get moving
Hugs to all who need them especially those with worries or looking after poorlies , stay safe warm and dry whatever you are up to xx

Morning All
It's still raining here as it has been for the last 4 days but a little milder this morning. I took little Sophie for a walk around their estate yesterday, it was cold, wet and windy but she had such fun splashing in the puddles and inspecting all the drains!
It's an in-service day here so I have a couple of things to do online then the day's my own. I bought DS2 a pair of cycling shoes for Christmas that got horribly delayed in the post. When he did receive them they were a bit of a neat fit so he's sent them back, I'll go in and try for a refund but may have to go for a credit note so may try the next size up but it's such a faff sending them back and forth.
Hugs to all, especially Ruby and Marie, take care. XX

Good Morning & happy Friday!!
Feeling brighter today - thanks ScarletRibbons!!
Mum called to say they are being vaccinated tomorrow - yippee (they are in the 70-75 group and in rural N Wales, GP vaccine so will be AZ so I am pleased about that.
Actually switched the TV off a bit yesterday and I think that helped my mood as we usually have on in the kitchen but its always gloom and doom so it was nice to not have that on dragging us all down.
I had a nice doggy walk and met some fellow dog owners that I haven't seen for a while - just kept missing each other so that was some nice socially distanced conversation!! (amazing how much it perked me up!!)
Did make curry and naan in the end and have lots left over
Joined shopmium and got a free bar of lindt choc - managed to do everything right and it was approved last night so I will continue to check on that daily. Still keep missing the morrisons too good to go bags though!! Never mind.
Lovely HM rye/white toast and HM clementine jam and espresso for breakfast - its become my favourite meal of the day!! Second lot of coffee is on now - doing a percolator pot for DD and I as she tends to have iced coffee during the day! I do like my rooibos tea during the day though.
Sausages out of the freezer for an easy dinner (sausage, hash browns, scrambled egg, mushrooms and tomato!! Yum)
Weekend jobs (for accountability!) -
hoover top floor stairs (dark blue so shows every single cat/dog hair!!)
organise house paperwork (bills and statements)
re-oil wood floor - not likely but you never know!
Cake/bread making
Cut hubby's hair!
Hope everyone else is doing well and hugs to those who need one (I am a good hugger!!!)

Morning all.
In spite of the apocalyptic weather forecast it is bright and sunny here with hardly any wind. I can only think that it's the lull before the storm. Chilly though. Brrrrrr.
I gritted my teeth and got through a bit of paperwork yesterday. I've re-done my will and the forms I've had to fill In in are mind-blowing. I managed to mess up one form spectacularly. I bet it will be returned with a request to pull myself together, do it all again and stay in after school.
Of all the things I hate doing, form filling has the starring role. I had enough of it in my working life, but never grew to love it.
Today is packing up a parcel and lugging it down to the Post Office. Anything else will be a bonus.
Sending warm, loving thoughts to Ruby, Marie and anyone else who would like a comforting hug.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Morning all
Just popped in to sat thenk you again for all the thoughts etc they really do mean a lot xx
I have been on the phone a lot this week, as has my sister arranging my brothers funeral the last bit of paperwprk was signed yesterday and dd has dropped it off this morning so we are hoping to get a date soon.
Gers thank you for sending that link I phoned the berevement team and council but both refused us any help, they said that fund is basically for homless people with no family at all, I was crying down the phone and begging for help but they would not budge, anyway we have applied for a government grant which will pay up to £1000 and got a £400 donation from our village fund, it was set up years ago and helps people in the village who are struggling this helped greatly, we have not heard from the government yet so my sister and I have paid the £1000 in the hope we get something back. We have gone for an 'intimate' funeral with 10 or 12 mouners and we get 10 mins in the chapel to do what we want with. My dd is putting together an order of service and we and all his boys have written something to go in and we have his favourite songs to play, it will be just how he wanted it, later on when we can we will have a memorial party and all have a beer for him which is what he would want more than anything.
It has been a huge emotional strain trying to organise this, we thought he had more time so had not spoken to him re his wishes so we are kind of guessing what he would have wanted, when I can I am going to sit and write down exactly what I want for my funeral so that dd does not have this worry.
I am hoping for a quiet afternoon on the sofa as I have no energy levels left but I have thought that all week and something keeps coming up.
Stay safe and take care xxx16 -
Morning all, the rain has stopped and the sun has come out.....yippee !! Yesterday was grey and dreary all day and I felt so down.Anyway today I'm trying to pull myself together and not dwell on things I cannot change. To try not to think I'm going to keep myself busy and I'm doing the washing first, there is a basket full plus the bedding from yesterday. Why did I let that happen ? I had been keeping on top of it till this weekYesterday I noted the stores that were MIA or down in numbers, so this afternoon I need to sort that out and the list needs transferring to my "next time" shopping book, before I lose the piece of paper by putting it somewhere safe ! I also want to make a tomato sauce for pasta, I'll make a big batch in the slow cooker and then portion it and freeze some. There is some tortellini in the fridge so maybe we'll have that for tea today with the sauce, if not something and chips and then the pasta tomorrow. That lot should keep me out of mischief for a while.Right the wm has finished so I shall empty the machine and put another load in.Lots of hugs to all today. Take care if you have to go out, stay safe.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13
